Hurricane Cristobal’s Closest Point At 7am Today

August 28, 2014

[Updated] According to the Bermuda Weather Service’s latest update this morning [Aug 28], Hurricane Cristobal will be at at its closest point to Bermuda at 7.00am today, some 246 nautical miles to the north-north-west.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami said the storm carrying maximum sustained winds near 75 mph [120 km/h] with higher gusts.

The NHC predicts that the “center of Cristobal will rapidly move toward the north Atlantic well away from Bermuda during the next several hours and pass well south of Nova Scotia later today.”

As of this writing [6.30am] the weather seems inclement, but not hurricane conditions, and we are not aware of the weather forcing any cancellations today, however if that changes we will update as able.

Update 9.08am: We checked with the Transport Ministry about ferry service, and were told: “St. George’s ferry service will resume Monday 1st September 2014 while other services are operating to schedule at the moment. Due to the forecast further service interruption are still likely.”
