PwC Supports Christmas Hamper Campaign

December 22, 2014

Hundreds of families in need will be receiving a hamper with a turkey and all the trimmings this Christmas thanks to the West End East End Central Community’s annual hamper campaign.

Hampers are distributed to families island-wide. Each hamper contains a family-size turkey, a selection of fresh produce, bread, pasta, rice, desserts, canned goods, seasonings, and more – everything that you would like to find on your holiday table.

Now in its 19th year, the campaign has grown from providing hampers to around 25 families, to supporting hundreds facing hard times in Bermuda.

“PwC is pleased to once again support this very important community initiative by providing a $10,000 donation,” said Arthur Wightman, PwC Bermuda Territory Leader. “This organisation and its dedicated team of volunteers work hard to ensure hundreds of families enjoy a great Christmas meal. We are proud to be a part of the campaign’s continuing success.”

Churches, schools and community groups across the island provide the names of families in need to the organisation.

“The goal of the campaign is to make it an easy process for people to receive hampers, either by delivery or collection. They don’t need to stand in line,” said Andrew Phillips of West End East End Central Community.

“The campaign has grown significantly over the years and we are looking at expanding it further by launching a programme in partnership with grocery stores to provide food hampers year round, because people in our community are not just struggling over Christmas.”
