Woolridge & Bowen Win Gold Medals In Mexico
Bermuda’s Reyel Bowen and Sentwali Woolridge both captured gold medals in Monterrey, Mexico during the 1st Pan American Sanda Cup.
Bowen defeated Cesar Zamarripa from Mexico in a gold medal match, while Woolridge defeated Karim Orozco from Mexico to also capture a gold medal.
Bowen fights in the 85 kilogram class, while Sentwali Woolridge fights in the 75 kilogram class.
This is another good showing from the two fighters, as Woolridge recently returned from the Sanda World Cup in Indonesia where he won a silver medal, while Reyel Bowen won a gold medal in the Pan American Wushu Championships in Costa Rica in September.
Bermuda San Shou Association President Garon Wilkinson said it was “another big year” for the Bermuda San Shou Association, bringing their international medal tally up to nine.
Shadow Sports Minister Michael Weeks congratulated the fighters, saying “The Progressive Labour Party extends our congratulations to Reyel Bowen and Sentwali Woolridge, who both won Gold medals at the Pan American Sanda Cup, held in Mexico. Well done!”
They traveled with manager Noelette Tucker and Oscar Lightbourne, who served as a judge at the Championship.
