And the saga continues. Slow down Bermuda

  2. Sparky says:

    3rd lane and on a corner ?

  3. Triangle Drifter says:

That is one nasty set of corners. Almost as bad as the ‘S’ turn at the other end of Warwick Long Bay.

A little road surface banking would make this & a whole bunch of other corners so much safer.

    • joe says:

it would, but not as much as cautious driving/riding

    • Stop blaming the roads says:

Did you just move to this island a few years ago and get your papers Buzz Lightyear? The roads been there for years.

KEEP CALM and LEARN ROAD SAFETY.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

So sad, can’t respond without going into a personal attack.

As a matter of fact my ship landed a very long time ago. Long enough to remember when none of those houses, except the one with dark blue shutters, were even there. That house belonged to a relative. The area was a dairy farm. South Road was much narrower then. The pavement ended at Horseshoe Bay.

Over 45 years on Bermuda roads, never had an insurance claim, no driving offences in over 30 years, I think I might know a thing or two about road safety & keeping calm.

        What is your record?

It’s particularly nasty only at speed, and happens to be at the end of a long stretch.
The bend between this photo and Warwick Camp is easy enough to cut/bypass, with great visibility, so it’s not unusual to see people carry into the second bend (this one) at speed.
If you have a bit too much speed, you’d drift into the right lane, roughly where the damaged car is.
I don’t profess to know what happened in this case, but for the same reason we shouldn’t suggest banking a turn as a result of a single accident about which we know few facts.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

This is not the first crash at this location. There have been many more & who knows how many close calls.

Unbelievable that I get so many dislikes on a previous post for advocating roads to be more safely engineered. It really demonstrates the small & narrow mindedness of island living. One wonders if these people have ever been off this little rock & driven somewhere on roads engineered to be as safe as possible.

Banking does not mean the extremes of a NASCAR track. Maybe that is all these ‘dislike’ safe roads have seen. Barnes Corner is another one. How many crashes have there been at that location?

Since 1946 the roads have been resurfaced, widened & had corners eased many times. You would think that along the way corners would be made safer. Only one comes to mind. The one around part of Pink Beach.

Cars & bikes are much safer & easier to drive or ride than they ever were before. How many remember driving cars without power assist brakes or power steering? You had to drive it then, not merely point it as you do now.

Pleading for people to slow down is a waste of time. They are not going to slow down. All of them believe that they will not crash.

The least Government can do is to make the roads safer as they go about the routine resurfacing.

Knowing the individual involved. I pray for his recovery. Don’t make assumptions on how the accident happened.

This particular corner is notorious when it first rains…brings the oil up heading east ,it needs to be pitched up on both the corners when paved …the grade of it is wrong….remember …first drizzle…it’s like ice…early morning dew also…if that particular road is even shiney from parcipitation it is like ice…many a good rider has gone down on that corner.

However…if this is who I think it is…he used to live up St.Ann’s way…so this indicates he knows that corne quite well…
