The seventh race of the Flying Colours Mountain Bike Race Series returned to Lagoon Park yesterday [Feb 22]. Very fair weather graced us between the nasty squalls and winter storms we have faced.

92 Contestants turned out in their team or individual colors to battle. The course was reversed for the second visit to Lagoon Park resulting in a completely different combination of loose and tight turns, short up and downhill spurts and lots of flow.

With the road season fast approaching, only four dedicated riders made up A Class. And a few of the veterans who race their laps alongside A class actually muscled their way up as far as third place in the combined field.

Once the excitement of seeing the rarely sighted Brian Steinhoff wore off, the final flag dropped for Matthew Olivereia who may have clinched his season points win now. Dave Collins came second and Chequan Richardson took third.

Male B with its huge field of 22 had the usual tight race between Kaden Hopkins and Dylan Hill with Sean Dickinson challenging briefly in the third lap. Dylan appeared to fade late in the race and Kaden won. Dylan held second and Sean earned a strong third place.

Junior 12 and under saw Points leader Manning Smith take an early 33 second lead with  Ziani Burgesson and Blake Olivereia leading the large pack. Ziani pulled Manning back to finally finish only 3 seconds behind! Blake took third.

Next race is March 8th at Hog Bay “THE HOG”
