Carifta Games: Kyrah Scraders Wins Bronze
The second day of the 2015 Carifta Games taking place in St. Kitt’s saw Bermuda’s Kyrah Scraders claim the island’s first track & field medal of these games as she crossed the line third in a time of 4:41.76 in the 1500m to claim a bronze medal. Jamaica’s Lisa Buchanan claimed the gold, while Sasha-Gaye Whyte, also from Jamaica, won the silver.
BNAA President Donna Watson said, “Kyrah ran a very smart race staying in the top 4 keeping herself in medal contention. On the last lap she moved into 3rd place and stayed in that position until the end. The two Jamaicans were 1st and 2nd.
“So far I am pleased with my team. They have all given 100% in their events so far. Jah-Nhai first time in the U20 High Jump placing 5th with a season best of 2.08. Michaiah making it to the finals in the U18 boys 400m and Keesha Miller making it to the top 8 in the U20 Long jump competing in her first Carifta games and jumping a PB 5.45. I am looking forward to some more great performances,” added Ms Watson.
Other Bermuda athletes in action included JahNai Perinchief, who finished 5th competing in the Under 20 High Jump with a top leap of 2.08m, while Tiara DeRosa finished 10th in the Shot Put with a top toss of 12.42m.
David Darrell finished 8th in the Under 18 1500m clocking a time of 4:19.36, Keesha Miller finished 8th in the Under 20 Long Jump with a top leap of 5.45m, while Kionje Somner finished 10th in the Under 20 400m clocking 49.99.
