Ministry: No East End Trash Collection Today

October 27, 2015

The Ministry of Public Works said there will be no East End trash collection today [Oct 27] due to “mechanical issues with the garbage trucks which are impacting normal scheduling.”

A spokesperson said, “The Ministry of Public Works can advise that there will be no East End trash collection today. This week, trash will be collected in the East End on Wednesday and Friday and in the West End today and Thursday.

“If possible, the public is asked to bring their garbage to the Tynes Bay Public Drop-Off for disposal from 9 am to 6 pm.

“The delay in collection is due to mechanical issues with the garbage trucks which are impacting normal scheduling. We are working to resolve these issues.

“The Ministry apologizes for the inconvenience.”

What a dysfunctional ministry. Not surprising given the leadership, I guess.

    • impressive. says:

You got it,, Our former premier in all his glory,, smdh.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

Been disfunctional since long before OBA took over. The last capable Minister was probably the UBPs Tessie Terciera.

      • Onion Juice says:

When they get the trucks fixed, don’t forget to put UBP in with the rest of the TRASH !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        LMFAO

  2. Izzypop says:

Use the w and e. Dumpsters. They do the same thing.

  3. Smiths says:

    Again? Rediculous…

Here’s a thought – Open Tynes Bay public drop off at 7:30 so those East Enders can take their garbage in their way past in the morning, opening at 9 serves no purpose to the working man. Think about closing at 7-7:30pm as many don’t get home until around 6.

    • Family Man says:

Those hours are set for the convenience of the staff – NOT for you.

      Welcome to Bermuda.

      • drunken ursula says:

those hours aren’t set for the staff… get it right you blind follower. The money man Richards issued those new hours to save money…hahahahah!

        • Zevon says:

The unions won’t let anyone change anything.
If it weren’t so stupid I’d LMFAO. But I just LMFAO at the stupidity of it.

    • umok says:

How about just have a trash depot in St. Geo so that residents can take their trash any time they please…

  4. Cow Polly says:

What a surprise? We haven’t had a Tuesday collection in so long, I’ve started putting my trash out Wednesdays as a normal occurrence.

  5. watching says:

this is really getting ridiculous. OBA get it together.

  6. Stella says:

Surely we could have been told this yesterday so that we could refrain from putting our trash out this morning for collection. C’mon you lot – get your act together!!

  7. asampson says:

Just wondering what the trash collectors do when the trucks are broken? I would think that mechanics are ‘fixing’ the trucks, so are they off for the day? Are they getting paid to play cards a couple of days a week?

    • Toodle-oo says:

I think there’s more going on here than what most want to presume , and that comes from an ‘insider’ . One of the guys who actually works on the trucks.

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Not a 9 letter word that begins with an S has 2 Bs & ends with an E is it?

      • Sick n tired says:

I so agree with you. Come on people, the buses and the garbage trucks go out of service almost at the same time. I can bet you this has nothing to do with malfunctions.

    • Family Man says:

It’s a toss up as to who has the best poker players, W&E or M&P.

  8. San George says:

Thanks for your efforts guys. We appreciate what you do.

  9. clearasmud says:

Are we to believe tha ALL of the trucks are out of order? Surely there is some redundancy bill into the system with backup trucks in case of emergency?

  10. bluebird says:

No this is all about the union and overtime.Dont worry about it as we are being driven into more DEBT until the Government has no money to pay the civil service.
Then when everything is privatized things will get better.

  11. Ed Case says:

Same sex marriage does not affect me but this does!

  12. capatain crappola says:

This is nothing new to the East, I do not even bother putting the trash out-haven’t for months now. I drop it off at Tynes Bay so no big deal.

But if this is going to go on like this would it not be fair to say that the guys who cannot collect the trash could perhaps go out with Parks and help with some much needed hedge clipping?

  13. High road says:

Perhaps the trucks haven’t been maintained properly in prior years

  14. Non Mechanic says:

First the ferries, then the buses, then the asphalt and W&E trucks now trash. I smell a rat ( pardon the pun )If I ran my business like that I would be out of business. And this all started in the previous administration and has snowballed ever since and is worse since we have no monies to spend to correct this travesty.

  15. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

One solution…trucks broken right, ok drivers and helpers go home get some rest because your working at 4 when the other working trucks finish their shift…refuel and prepare for take off.

Oh …incase you didn’t catch it …no overtime cost…do your 6 hour shift n see you later…same roster until your truck is road ready.

    • Zevon says:

Plus don’t forget to take your 70 days sick every year. And 6 weeks vacation.

  16. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

Oh …One other thing I was wondering…almost every day there are stories about govt. blunders here so…how come I don’t really see any comments being posted by employees even if it’s under an anonymous pen name…setting the record straight about certain situations…just to quell the abundance of assumptions which only induces organized kaos.

Or do you sign something requiring silence when hired.

    • Zevon says:

The employees are too busy enjoying their 70 days sick leave plus carry forward what you don’t use.

      • impressive. says:

thats a assumption based on a generalization in your mind.. Until you have proof, ease off with the attacking of the workers.. You want to blame all the workers, but completely disregard the person in charge of managing the entire farce.. smdh

        • Family Man says:

You’re right, Chris Furbert deserves a lot of the blame too as the person in charge of orchestrating this farce.

        • Zevon says:

Proof was in the Sage report. Nothing was done about it though. Unions in the way of progress, as always.

  17. living west says:

I live west and my trash wasn’t collected on Monday. I find that the trash isn’t being collected until after 5 when they do come. The other night it was 7:30pm. I also don’t see how ALL the trucks can be broken at the same time, and what about collecting the trash in a dump truck and taking it to tynes bay themselves if their trash truck is broken. Just a suggestion

    • Raymond Ray says:

Question. Do they that are collecting garbage after the normal hours get paid double time?(Inquisitive minds would love to now.)

  18. Hmmmm says:

I like how you’ve been asking us to take our trash to Tynes Bay….I remember a local TV commercial stating if we don’t pay our payroll tax we won’t have these services!!!! Well as My tax comes out faithfully I would like my trash to be picked up on time as you all (Government) have my money on time!!!

  19. Sally Girl says:

I live in Warwick – my trash was supposed to be picked up on Monday. It’s now Wednesday and the trash is still at the end of my driveway, getting picked at by birds and cats. The next “scheduled” pick up is Thursday. If the truck comes today will it also come tomorrow? Seems a bit redundant to pick up two days in a row. If the truck doesn’t come until the next “scheduled” pick up will my tax dollars be reimbursed for services not provided? Final points:

    1) privatize
    2) reduce service to once a week and stick to the schedule
    3) I am not taking my trash to Tynes less tax credits are issued

    • Family Man says:

The trash won’t be collected today. It’s raining.
