Appearing in Magistrates Court today [May 6], a 63-year-old taxi driver was disqualified from driving for two years and fined $1,500 for driving without due care on 23rd November 2015.

Mr Terry Flood admitted driving without due care and attention which resulted in him striking a motorcyclist at the traffic lights at the junction of Church and Parliament Streets, and causing grievous bodily harm to her.

The female rider suffered injuries to her body as well as dental trauma.

Mr Flood told the Magistrate that the roads were wet and slippery and that despite his caution, his taxi did run into the back of the cycle.

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo disqualified Mr Flood from driving all vehicles for two years and fined him $1,500,

Mr Flood — who said he had been driving safely for some 30 years – asked if the sentence of disqualification could be avoided but the Magistrate told him that legislation required that disqualification was mandatory.
