Govt To Investigate ‘Vote No’ Sticker On Vehicle

June 3, 2016

The Ministry of Public Works said they “will take the necessary steps to investigate” the bumper sticker on a Government vehicle urging people to “vote no” to same sex marriage, as “bumper stickers or other messages affixed to Government vehicle other than Ministry or Department detail is not permitted.”

The sticker — which has the Preserve Marriage logo on it — is urging people to “vote no twice” in the Referendum, which will be held on June 23 with voters to take to the polls to answer two questions: “are you in favour of same sex marriage in Bermuda?” and “are you in favour of same sex civil unions in Bermuda?”

After two readers emailed in photos of the Government vehicle, Bernews asked the Ministry for comment and a spokesperson told us “bumper stickers or other messages affixed to Government vehicle other than Ministry or Department detail is not permitted.”

“Therefore, the Ministry of Public Works will take the necessary steps to investigate this matter,” the spokesperson added.

  1. Classy says:

The gov vehicle also has a Christian cross customized on the back. That’s a no no too – and certainly seems like this taxpayer funded pickup is used as a personal vehicle

    • Raymond Ray says:

I agree, it does appear to be used for “other reasons”. And by the way, it’s a sporty vehicle i.e. rather expensive being used for what? Inquisitive minds would like to know?

      • Family Man says:

Hopefully this means one less civil servant.

Let them ‘decorate’ their own vehicle.

    • IslandTeacher says:

This individual is free to express his or her opinion despite holding a salaried position with Government. The premier has quite rightly made known where he stands. The statement of endopremier spoke his as the premier using that mantle to add gravitas to his opinion. You could say that this akin to a bumper sticker on GP1. Let us keep a sense of proportionality. We have much bigger concerns like the death of 29 young people.

      • IslandTeacher says:

The statement of endopremier???? Proof reading 0/10

        • Rich says:

Well – presume the OP was typed out on a mobile. So some sympathy!

      • blankman says:

The rules governing the Civil Service are actually different from those governing politicians.

The sticker on a government vehicle is strictly verbotten as is the cross.

      • Toleratate says:

Wow… talk about apples and oranges… What the Premier stated, and what was done here is NOT the same…How would you feel sayyyyyy…. during the next election the bumper sticker changed to “VOTE OBA”….. Having the right to express ones opinion DOES NOT include sticking propaganda of ANY kind on your WORK vehicle…
This was wrong plain and simple…

      • Verly says:

IslandTeacher…wrong!! This vehicle doesn’t belong to this government worker, it belongs to the taxpayer!!! He/she has no right to put personal stickers on this vehicle. Nobody is saying this person can’t have an opinion, but they can’t splash it across property that doesn’t belong to them!!

    • James says:

When the OBA was voted in power they promised that Government vehicles would be parked at 5pm and not taken home for personal use. Forward to 2016 and count all the GP and government vehicles that are being used by civil servants who are taking them home. Who do you think is paying for the gas? Tax payers. Do we have money or do we don’t have money?

Finance Minister ET Bob Richards any thoughts on this?

    • frank says:

first of all why does government even need a big suv like this for a supervisor/manager to drive around in
oh I forgot they get all these Toyota’s from gibbons company
and don’t for get the suv’s and pick up trucks that the parks department have

      • Triangle Drifter says:

Where would you like Government to get their vehicles from? Who would you prefer that the Government get to service them?

    • Bermudian says:

Wonder if this is the same vehicle & driver that had the the child’s seat fastened to the rear seat a few years ago just prior to the last election? I would also like to know how much the Government has saved in fuel ( gallons & dollars) & maintenance since they started involving non private use of their vehicles?

    • k says:

      K.

  2. Blind Sheep says:

Cause guys not Divorce is what ruins the image of marriage.

    • Blind Sheep says:

      * GUYS

      • Blind Sheep says:

        Damn auto correct. ……Gays

        • Idiota says:

          Epic fail

          • BLIND SHEEP says:

I need to get a new tablet….it is homophobic, it does not like gays

        • Dave says:

Ha blind sheep sums you up perfectly!

          • Blind Sheep says:

I have no issue with someone being gay. Guess you have no idea what sarcasm is. Guess someone needs to throw a light bulb at you so you can lighten up.

    • Sar Kastick says:

Studies have shown and proven time and time again that the number one cause of divorce is marriage.

Let’em get married. The deserve to be miserable too just like heterosexual couples.

      • Sar Kastick says:

I am Christian (although not a regular visitor to church) and I understand why so many people feel so strongly about the issue.

However, what I don’t understand is why some people feel they have a right to judge and impose their feelings which border on hatred on others. Who am I to judge someone else even if they don’t follow the rules and lifestyle as shown in the Bible, the Koran, or any other teaching.

I’m in no position to casts the first stone….are you. If I do wrong and believe, I know I will pay for it later. Isn’t that enough?

  3. dancing green troll says:

this sticker should be enough to have preserve marriage charity status revoked and forced to pay for the removal of any and all hate ads placed on any property where people request to having it removed.

    • RME says:

Get a grip. It’s not PM’s fault that a private citizen chose to put one of the stickers on a vehicle he shouldn’t have. PM would not condone that. Sheesh.

      • Verly says:

PM wouldn’t condone that? I would bet my bottom dollar they would.

      • blankman says:

Agreed that the sticker shouldn’t draw the charitable status of Preserve Marriage into question. The thing be questioned is the employment status of whoever placed the sticker (and the cross) on the vehicle.

        • Why should Preserve marriage not have their charitable status questioned? It’s not about where this sticker was found but the fact that it exists at all. This is someones ideas of a charity doing charitable work? This is a ‘charity’ pushing a political agenda and deliberately fighting to deny equality of rights. I still wonder about the people on the commision who granted them charitable status in the first place.

          • 32n64w says:

While I strongly disagree with the PM movement, they have every right to take a public position on issues. BEST, Greenrock, Bermuda National Trust, the Churches, Coalition for the Protection of Children, Age Concern, etc. all engage in some form of lobbying to advocate their respective positions.

            • Agreed with this proviso: the others you named, with the posible exception of churches on occassion, are not nor do they attempt to deny others their rights. Preserve marriage has every right to their opinion and every right to their stickers. Some of us question their right to do so AS A CHARITY. It’s the whole ‘denying others’ part that I personally have a problem with and fail to see what is charitable about their stance.

        • HW says:

Thanks for showing your true colors. I believe the person should be reprimanded and obviously the sticker and cross removed as this is a government vehicle and they have no right to do this. But to say this person should lose their job is ridiculous and demonstrates your blind hatred and intolerance for anyone with a differing opinion from yours.

      • Bermudian says:

It is defacing public property & when it is removed & if removes paint from the truck the bill should be sent to The PM lot for repainting!

        • HW says:

Another ridiculous comment. Why on earth should PM be responsible for the actions of an individual?

    • Sage says:

You are right. But the idiot has BIU and Fake Hunger Strikers for back up – so if he was fired they’d just shut it all down.

  4. sandgrownan says:

Utter scum. Perpetrator, once identified, should be publicly identified, humiliated and then fired. Scum.

    • Sar Kastick says:

While I agree that government vehicles shouldn’t be used to promote ones personal agenda, do you really think this person should be humiliated and fired?! People do make mistakes and nobody is perfect.

      • Verly says:

Not fired, but severely reprimanded. He should know better.

      • Onion says:

Violating Civil Service protocol is a pretty severe offence and this isn’t his first time.

I also have it on good authority that he’s a Vikings fan and that’s inexcusable in a world where great sporting franchises like Manchester United exist.

        • Perrier says:

Except that Manchester United are not a franchise. There is only one franchise in British football – that disgusting outfit from Milton Keynes.

      • sandgrownan says:

Yes, I do. Once for breaching protocol, and once again for being an idiot.

        • PhD. says:

I couldn’t possibly agree more. In all seriousness, we have an obese Civil Service – one way to trim it down is to fire idiots who do idiotic things. So newsflash to all members of the CS: your position is already on thin ice – don’t be an idiot and lose it for sure.

          • Point boy says:

If you want to trim the civil services then start drug testing. One= a warning. Two= an offer for help. Three= hit the road jack

      • Zevon says:

        Fire his a**

    • Triangle Drifter says:

No, not fired. Lose the truck & given a hoe or a street broom to drive, but not fired.

  5. Yahoo says:

There’s also a Minnesota Vikings decal in the back window. Guess this govt employee supports child abusers and bigots…

    • Smhstfu says:

Lmao child abusers don’t represent the vikings you dumb f#@$. Disciplining your child makes you a child abuser smh the ignorance

      • Yahoo says:

Please don’t hurt my feelings with your mean words. If you think what AP did to his kid is discipline, I sure hope you never reproduce.

  6. Lualaba says:

Dude drops his wife (girlfriend off) on Reid St couple of times a week. Hope he pays for maintenance and gas used in our ( the people’s) pickup!! Preserve Marrage is a joke!! How many are devorced, cheating or a have abused women …

    Anyway

    • dancing green troll says:

is this not the same vehicle that had a child sit on the back seat? gov needs to collect all cars, after business hours

      • k says:

        mind your business.

        • dancing green troll says:

if it belongs to the people it is every ones business

    • Rockfish#1 says:

The employees of this Ministry are the worst offenders when it comes to the blatant misuse of Government owned vehicles, although the practice is spread across the Government.
This was obvious when the driver of the then new Jeep Patriot fitted it out as if he was the owner, complete with a child’s seat. And was/is arrogant enough to park it outside his place of worship every Sunday morning!
For a short while, the misuse of our vehicles lessened, but now it is common to see them used to shop, transport children to school, transport family members to the beach, and of course, drive to church.
The drivers clearly do as they wish and those to whom they report seem powerless to stop them. Primarily because they misuse the vehicles as well.

    • wondering says:

  7. Pepe says:

Great now they have bumper stickers… “-_-

  8. Wow says:

I think the OBA really need to tighten the reigns on things like this or it can snowball out of control.

    • Idiota says:

The OBA are the Government of the day – they do not run the civil service. Go after Binns, the head of the civil service.

This is the same truck which caused a whole load of issues just before the last election. Some people never learn. Can’t touch ‘em though – unions won’t allow it.

      • sandgrownan says:

take the truck away. Get the fat a** to walk to work

    • Sage says:

They did try. But Reverend Twit just has to call out his Peoples Campaign bigots to force matters on all the sane people on this island.

    • Sar Kastick says:

So they made a mistake. You tell him or her not to do it again as it goes against policy and move on. It they do it again, then you perhaps discipline them.

I hope everyone does not think like you do. If they did people would get offensive bumper stickers and stick them on the back of their enemies cars without them knowing just to get them fired.

      • blankman says:

Thing is, this sticker is not on the back of the truck where he might be able to argue that someone else placed it there and “he didn’t know”. It’s prominently displayed on the door so he clearly knows it’s there and, by the simple fact that he didn’t remove it, he’s not only agreeing with it but he’s in violation of civil service rules.

Add in the cross on the back of the truck and this guy is clearly, and knowingly, flouting the rules.

        It should not be ignored.

        • Perrier says:

It will be ignored. The sticker may have go, but he will get off with no reprimand. Guaranteed.

        • HW says:

The picture on here shows it on the back of the truck.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

SNOWBALL!!!! It has been an avalanche for a very long time.

  9. takbir Sharrieff says:

    Touche,,,,,,point made,,,,,Public ,,,,attention.Thanks to Bernews….

    • Zevon says:

And whoever drives the vehicle should be fired.

      • HW says:

Take note of the blind hatred SSM proponents have for any opposition to their cause. No- this person shouldn’t have done this and should be reprimanded but to suggest they should lose their livelihood shows how much hate and bitterness far too many people who support SSM have. It exists on both sides but is far more prominent from SSM supporters.

    • Perrier says:

Right, like no-one had ever heard of the campaign.

      • blankman says:

Fired for breaking a number of rules. The sticker. The cross. Using the truck for personal use. And if other commenters are to be believed this isn’t the first time this individual has crossed the line.

  10. Typical says:

Clearly this vehicle is driven by only one person. Some Government Deartments are full of favoritism, nepotism. Nothing will happen…l

  11. Real Talk (original) says:

Somebody clearly doesn’t know the difference between a personal and work vehicle.

    • Tiger Lily says:

Many people use company vehicles for more than business. It is obvious that those who know the driver are set to screw them in through this thread. To me there is a simple fix. All vehicles should be left on property and used only during working hours. I see company vehicles on the streets on weekends and at social functions yet the business on vehicle is closed during those hours.
The department should just remove the stickers and reiterate the vehicle policy if there is one.

      • blankman says:

Provided they aren’t violating any laws, p.Private businesses are free to set whatever rules they want.

In this case the civil service rules are clear.

  12. King Jammys says:

A “No Vote” is a vote for hate.

    • frank says:

a no vote is someone using their vote to express how they on the subject that’s it and for real if those sick filthy people want to get married they can go some where else and do it .

      • Zevon says:

If a sick filthy bigot wants to express his hate on a sticker, he can buy his own f ing truck and do it.

      • Mike Hind says:

The only thing sick and filthy here is your hate.

How dare you tell Bermudians that they have to leave their own country?
How dare you think you should get a say in someone else’s life?

  13. Pride says:

    Vote yes yes

  14. dancing green troll says:

effective today I propose to with hold all payments to government where ever possible until all hate mail is removed from government property and these vehicles taken away from the people responsible for these matters of abuse of government property .

    • Tiger Lily says:

And I vote that taxpayers money should not be spent to promote referendums in private businesses where clients are subjected to continual repeats of the PSAs while eating dinner or getting a service.

    • Ann says:

I like the way you think Troll! Nothing would make me happier than to have all the responsible people that pay for these idiots with payroll tax not pay anything the next go round. It’s our money, and lately we all have no say where it goes, tired of paying and working to support lazy!

  15. dancing green troll says:

    hate ads-mail -propaganda is removed

  16. who cares most says:

I hope that Ministry has a look at all Govt. vehicles and gets rid off all the stickers that are not standard material. We the taxpayers should not have to see illegal stickers on our vehicles.
Mr PS please do whats right and rid them soonest.

    Thanking you inadvance

    • Tiger Lily says:

Why just leave it there? All ministries need to buck up.
Clean up and pave all of our streets with quality products so that we are not burdened with potholes and damage to our vehicles (and personal injuries from hitting the potholes).
Island-wide, trees need to be cut back on a regular basis.
Get to fixing the buzzers and air conditioning in the buses if not get buses with windows that open and save $$$ on gas and maintenance to run the ac.
Something else more important than a bumper sticker would be the demolishing and clean-up of the old recycling plant on Devon Springs Road. It is an eyesore and a danger which could result in a tragedy.
We spend too much time on nit picking in these spaces.

  17. Ed Case says:

Religiotards at it again with their hate.

  18. Silver bullet says:

It’s this political correctness that is destroying this Island. Everyone is got their eye on the next person reacting over the slightest infraction.

  19. donna didluck palkowski says:

you r not going 2 stop it, so let them have what they want.

  20. Ed Case says:

There is also an old religious torture device sticker on the back of the truck. Holy roller, they are the worst. Sick, just sick.

    • Ann says:

Agree, why don’t all you Holy Rollers put your effort into the obvious lacking of marriage period! How many children are reported not having lunch at school, I will put money that these kids come from unmarried parents, I believe in gay marriage because they have values and the ability to adopt some of these children that people just drop like flies and expect everyone to take care of them. Great lessons the church has taught these lot!

      • HW says:

Ann I believe it’s our lack of respect for marriage that is largely why we have so many of the social problems. So trying to get back to the ideal of marriage and a man and a woman being committed to staying together to raise any kids that may result from their union is essential. This is why I want to preserve marriage. Evidence of failed marriages does not mean we should therefore redefine it- it’s evidence we need to get back to promoting and strengthening existing marriages.

Finally in you criticism of PM you have overlooked the fact that many of its members and organizations who support PM already are doing work to help the disadvantaged, the hungry, and school kids in many areas including those who don’t have sufficient food at home. Given your passion for these problems, I trust you too are actively involved in being part of the solution to them, and not simply using others misfortunes to try and redirect blame at a group you obviously disagree with.

  21. Zevon says:

Government vehicles being treated as though they are the personal property of the driver.
    Disgusting.

  22. Vote for Me says:

Got to agree. A reminder to all public workers. The vehicles are not personal. In this case the worker does lots of out of hours work for us as members of the public, especially during hurricanes and late night accidents etc.

Lets come correct – get him to remove the sticker and move on.

  23. mj says:

speaking of defaming, why is the “Johnny Barnes” statue being used for advertising??????????????????????????????????????????maybe some one should stick some on MICKEY MOUSE(princess hotel), and why are local statues being replaced??????????????

  24. JB says:

This truck looks a lot like the one that broke the government rule of not transporting civilians and had a baby seat in it.

    • Triangle Drifter says:

There are more than a few W&E vehicles which are being used for personal transport, all funded by the taxpayer.

It is all part of the ‘do as we want’ attitude within the Civil Service costing us millions that we don’t have to waste.

    • That one says:

Kay, so what makes sense if your child goes to school next to your job would you drive your personal car there go back home get your work can to go work or drive your work van to drop ya child off than than to work. Keep in mind your child goes school next to your job because if anything happens its convenient for you to go next door to your child’s school

      • Let's be logical... says:

If this person followed the rules then the vehicle in question would never leave his place of work, therefore he would take his own vehicle home after work, then take his own vehicle to drop off his child and then drive to work where he would switch up the vehicle and then use the government one to do his work in…It’s quite concerning that this logical (and also rule-abiding) solution needs to be pointed out but then again common sense isn’t all that common after all…

  25. Mr. Meoff says:

I was told that my vehicle had failed TCD because it had a sticker that was ” promoting a club (football) yet, on Government buses they advertise any and everything. Why is that?

  26. swing voter says:

ah..the pimped out truck used for profiling….heard it has a hott stereo too

  27. Brandon says:

Doesn’t these people have anything else to do but to worry about a crazy sticker on the back of the tax payers truck ? if people are against same sex marriage then so be it,anybody could’ve put that sticker there it’s just a matter of just peeling the sticker off that’s all it’s that simple. There’s more to deal with in BDA like solving these unecessary gun crimes.

  28. Lone Wolf says:

Okay, maybe it’s too early and I’m not reading the article right, but where is the proof that the regular driver of this vehicle is the person who put the sticker on it?

Anyone can walk up to a vehicle and slap a sticker on it. And I don’t know about you, but I certainly do not check the back of my car every single time I get in it to go somewhere. If someone stuck a sticker on the back of my car it could be several days before I notice it.

Chances are highly likely that the driver IS responsible for the sticker but I don’t think we should crucify him/her (pun intended) until we have proof that they did it.

Everyone here is so quick to judge and execute people before having all the facts.

  29. mmm says:

Government will now take the position of inspecting all of its vehicles to ensure that only relevant information is displayed. Now um sure we do not need to pull out a dictionary. Are we also going to have log sheets filled out when-ever these vehicles respond to emergencies after hours. The higher up you go the LESS A C C O U N T A B I L I T Y there is. I think the appr opriate policies exist, they are just not enforced regularly, and if they are enforced its usually the little guy that gets slammed, while the higher ups may get a slight reminder. Yesterday I saw a Minister driving a GP car, why are we not putting a mini-bus / shuttle service vehicle in use to get these Ministers to various appointments, do these Ministers still have these GP cars 24 7. People in high places lik e to enjoy the comforts and perks of a high office i.e. a travel allowanc e, first class on flights, first class hotels, fancy restaurants, and whi le this may be nice in some circumstances from time to time, we need to divert some of those funds to senior citizens and hungry school children.

  30. Truth is killin' me... says:

    Entitlement…nothing more…nothing less!

  31. 1 minute says:

I am guess the PLP will also support removing it in the same way they had the politial ads removed from bus stops

  32. Triangle Drifter says:

Hmmm, think I might know who has this particular W&E truck. Treats it as his personal vehicle. When on vacation, the truck stays with him at his residence for personal use. Used the truck more than once for personal house moves. You can be sure that the taxpayer funds the gas & maintenance for all of this personal use.

Look closely. All nicely pimped out too with the wheels, tires, fancy bed rack & looks to be a solid bed cover. All very expensive add ons.

Who paid for this stuff? Even if the driver paid for it, what is it doing on a Government (taxpayer) owned vehicle.

A serious crackdown on this type of abuse is way overdue.

  33. Oh,I see now says:

All I know is this cat is fueling the BS government employees must deal with from an unsympathetic public looking for a scalp to all our money woes.I will agree we must trim the fat in the civil service but the attitude of spending ran riot through this community in all social economic level. The funny part is no-one gave a $hi+ until we became hungry/angry (broke) mons,Bob saw it yeeeeears ago.

  34. Triangle Drifter says:

There is no problem with making ones views known, but not on Government vehicles or company property.

Election season is in full swing in the US, & not just for the President. Posters can be seen on front yards & on some areas of roadside land. Where there is a poster for one side there is a poster for the other. One side does not destroy the posters of the other. A sign of a mature democracy.

  35. Rockfish #1 and#2 says:

Too often the Permanent Secretaries lack the backbone to deal with these types of abuse/ rule breaking.
They are too concerned with being popular, which causes the employees to treat them with disrespect and in some cases contempt.
Time for head of the civil service Binns to earn his keep!

  36. Longtailtoo says:

Doesn’t reflect too well on the teachings of the church this person belongs to … Do they support breaking rules when people just feel like it? What do they preach (apart from politics and voting no, no)?

  37. Marriage Equality Bermuda says:

We live in a democracy, so it’s ok for people to express a no opinion to the same-sex marriage referendum on June 23. However, it is completely wrong for a ‘Vote No’ sticker to be displayed on a Bermuda Government vehicle!

  38. DontMatter says:

You people have way to much time on your hands to sit around worrying about who drives this truck, and what’s on it. Not one of you people commenting, signs his/her pay check. The article did state & I will quote ” The Ministry of Public Works, ‘will take the necessary steps to investigate’. “. Therefore allow them to do their job. Secondly, this sounds like it’s way more than just a “bumper sticker”. You are obviously worrying more and more about what this person does with his/her truck than what is said on the bumper sticker which sounds a bit more like envious. Last time I checked the roads that you drive on, the bus stops that you sit under, the walls that you lean on, the sidewalks used for protection from the road collisions, everytime there is a hurricane and you are ALL snuggled under your covers; who do yoU think has a big part in fixing it? And instead of saying Thank you for fixing our roads, walls, bus stops, etc. you look for petty reasons to complain about something because YOU don’t have it. Last but not least, you people are complaining because it has fancy tires, and always looks flashy, Just Wondering but are you people putting money towards it ? No. So instead of worrying about what he/she is doing with the truck keep in mind unlike you folk that cause the struggle, is people like the person driving who tries to fix it.

& P.S. To the person that said she/he uses it to “move houses” and personal drives, get ya facts straight because how would you even know. the fact that you think you know everything the driver does is sad because you sound like you’re watching him.

    - Enough Said.

    • Rockfish #2 says:

Are you seriously saying this man was provided with a vehicle for his personal use simply because he is in some way responsible for routine maintenance of SOME government properties, and cleaning up after a hurricane?
To your claim that someone is watching him, there is no need to. He flaunts the taxpayer vehicle as if he really owns it.

Finally, why are you defending this arrogance and abuse of taxpayer money?

  39. DontMatter says:

And Just wondering but to the people that have a problem with the ”baby seat” incident tell me does this makes sense…. If you live devonshire n work bay and you’re child’s school is next to your job because it’s more convenient if anything was to happen you are close to your child, should you drive your personal vehicle all the way bay to drop your child off and than go all the way home to get your job vehicle because having your job vehicle home during work nights and mornings is also convenient for your wife who also needs transportation to go to work makes sense or just getting in the job vehicle leave at a good time to drop your child off and than still be on time to work so your wife can have the car to get to work also….. Hhhhhhhhhmmmmmmm tell me please just wondering

    • Albie says:

      Yes.

You get paid to do your job.

Your private life and its responsibilities are your problem and you should attend to them without impacting your job.

  40. DontMatter says:

Lol but you called the driver fat. Lol sounds like someone’s hating on the drivers lifestyle. Misery Loves Company. I mean if you guys want to live comfortable like the driver, go school, get educated, get a few degrees, I’m sure you won’t be so envious.

    • dancing green troll says:

schooling has nothing to do when using other people’s money.

  41. Jjjjjddbe says:

You talk about a side of mature democracy but yet your accusing him of using the truck for personal use over the weekend and during vacation time and moving house. First off how would you know ? You sound al little bit toooo focused on him and his truck outside of the sticker

    • Triangle Drifter says:

The topic has grown from simply the sticker to abuse of taxypayer owned vehicles. How would I know about moving house with a Government vehicle? Well, I do have a pair of working eyes. Somebody moving house is not exactly something that can be done without people noticing.

      • That one says:

Well get yourself some glasses please. Because he doesn’t. But it’s pokey people like you who sit home all day criticizing the people trying to fix our society. What are you doing to help ? Your eyes work tho? Obviously not because that truck is way to small to be used for moving purposes. If your going to stalk people stalk right

  42. Jjjjjddbe says:

Like the article said ministry of public works is taking it into the OWN hands…… Leave it alone. Last time I checked the person your bashing is the same person who fixes your roads, bus stops, and is always out throughout the hurricane helping to prevent your houses to from getting crushed.

  43. Zario says:

What’s to investigate? Just send a notice to all Civil servants, of the policy, and get the driver to remove the sticker.

    • Rockfish #1 and#2 says:

Some of the worst offenders are Permanent Secretaries, and other senior civil servants. Therefore, one cannot expect them to send notices anytime soon. It is part of the culture, and very few lead by example.
Again, the Head of the Civil Service Derek Binns, Doctor of Philosophy, must deal with this worsening problem as a matter of urgency. That is part of his job!!

  44. Preserve Equality says:

WOW… Government just gave Preserve Marriage charity status….
Are they spending money on bumper stickers now ?

Ah the funds are being spent on bigotry and hate, to deny good people the right to love and marry they one they are with. Thats what those bumper stickers are in effect attempting to do :(

That truck reeks of “personal vehicle”, paid for and owned by the Government (W&E)
Got a hate sticker on it…got Jesus on the back window, and a cross on the back. Damn.

This is ABUSE of Government property, it is abuse by someone attempting to deny equality to fellow human beings. Whoever it is – is a scumbag.

  45. Rhonnda Oliver says:

Everyone is entitled to support what they like, they are not, however, entitled to put stickers on Government vehicles. I don’t care the content of the sticker.

I think the perpetrator should have to remove the stickers, sign a document stating that they now understand it is against policy and then we all move on.

    It’s not a huge deal.

  46. cindy says:

Looks like he is promoting a sustainable Bermuda. Vote “Yes” and the population dwindles and eventually not sustainable. Vote “No” and we can grow our population thus ensuring a Bermuda that is sustainable. How much time do will it take for either? Inquiring minds want to know. Are you for Bermuda or are you for your own selfish gain? Most morals are intrinsic and conscience fine tunes and guides in making good decisions for the sake of the big picture.

    • Let's be logical... says:

You actually think that by denying a couple of the same sex the right to be married that the population will grow? You believe that these same sex couples will suddenly “change their minds” about who they are as human beings and just “become” straight and marry a person of the opposite sex and have children? Really?? The same sex couples will STILL be same sex couples if the outcome of the referendum isn’t in their favour, only they will have their rights denied and will possibly move away from Bermuda, thus resulting in a lower population. Seriously, you said “think about the big picture” yet you apparently don’t see the big picture at all. None of the other countries with legalized same sex marriage have seen a decline in population.
I’d also like to point out that a significant portion of the population (especially in the last 20 years or so) are children born to people out of wedlock, so changing or not changing the laws of marriage will not affect the reproduction of the population as this trend will only continue due to people’s changing views on the idea of marriage altogether. Times are changing, consider joining the 21 century :)

    • dancing green troll says:

at the rate bda is going and has gone Bermuda will be another Haiti come next generation already listening to women describe which baby daddy is for each kid. sad part gov rewards these people with fa. and still making babies. if the gov punished them by reducing what the get each time the have a baby bda would not be in so much debt

    • PBanks says:

What a bizarre hypothesis. The population will dwindle if gay people can get married? The population will increase if gay people are prevented from marrying each other?

Straight couples – married or unmarried, are going to change their procreation habits based on what gay people can or cannot do? Um, ok then.

    • Mike Hind says:

This is one of the most ridiculous posts I’ve ever read.

Allowing people equal access to rights and privileges is going to cause the population to dwindle?
How, exactly? How does that make even the slightest bit of sense to you?

“How much time will it take for either?”
No time at all. Because it won’t happen. Your premise is false and ridiculous and, quite frankly, sickening.

The only people being selfish here are those spreading misinformation like you are doing here, thinking that your access to rights is something you need to protect.
A good decision for the sake of the big picture would be to remove 15c from the books and allow these people, these Bermudians currently denied access to these rights, to have equality.

“A sustainable Bermuda” has to be the most bizarre argument I’ve ever read… and I’ve read many of them.

      Come on. We deserve better.

  47. Keepin' it Real!...4Real! says:

I just gotta laugh bie…when I call you people stupid I’m not disrespecting you…I’m just describing you that’s all…If a sticker gets y’all up in arms then trust me …y’all have a hard road ahead of you.
I really think that y’all are jealous that you didn’t come out with your sticker first…

  48. Terry says:

Could it be a case of ” Who framed Roger Rabbit” ?

No one knows who put these stickers on vehicles.

    Shalom.

  49. ImJustSayin says:

Better call Scotland Yard for this one. LoL!

  50. Ponty says:

If the bumper sticker had said ‘say yes’ – It wouldnt have even made the news.

  51. Francesca says:

If the Premier can come on TVCC and say vote Yes Yes, then why can’t a Gov. vehicle have a sticker? Sounds like double standards to me????
