Bermuda Golfers Continue Competing In Mexico

September 22, 2016

The Bermuda golf team fared better today with a 4 over par on the Mayakoba course at the World Amateur Team Championships taking place in Mexico.

Jarryd Dillas said, “It has been a bit of a grind over the last couple of days but our scoring was better today and we hope to build on that over the next two rounds.

“Personally, I’m not hitting the ball as well as I would like and not making important putts that I need to make. I need to improve on my par 3 and par 5 scoring and avoid the big numbers over the next two days.

In comparing the two courses, Dillas commented, “If you hit a bad drive at Iberostar you are in trouble, at Mayakoba if you hit a bad drive you might be in trouble – which may account for the better scoring.

Mark Phillips noted that in both rounds he has had rough start but managed to battle back and hopes to improve his performance in the next two rounds.

Eric West had the low round of the team with a 1 over par and was very unfortunate in missing a birdie putt on #8 his penultimate hole which would have returned him to even par. He said that he was pleased with his round and acknowledges the incredible golf that the lead players are demonstrating in shooting low sub par rounds.

The conditions continue to be challenging with temperatures around 100 degrees on the course and very high humidity
