Opportunity To Learn From Harvard Professor

As part of its Executive Leadership Program, the Bermuda Insurance Institute [BII] is getting set to present a series of seminars throughout the year led by visiting professors from Harvard University, inviting participants to “take your career to the next level with the opportunity to learn from a distinguished Harvard professor.”

A spokesperson said, “Entitled Leading in the 21st Century, the program consists of two modules; one focusing on leadership and the other on negotiation. The next seminar will emphasize leadership,and is scheduled for October 24 and 25th.

“The day and a half workshop will be led by Tony Mayo, a Thomas S. Murphy Senior Lecturer of Business Administration in the Organizational Behavior Unit of Harvard Business School [HBS] and the Director of the HBS Leadership Initiative.

“It is designed to be a very interactive course with lots of opportunity for discussion.

“Components include ‘Leadership Style and Impact’, Emotional Intelligence’ and ‘Team Simulation’. Participants will complete an emotional intelligence assessment, a personal values questionnaire, and a team assessment.

“So far, the program has been very well received with previous attendees citing ‘a very valuable course with a strong presenter’; ‘great course facilitator and great real life examples’; and ‘Tony was great – he did a good job of building interest and made the program fun.’”

Dawnnelle Walker, CEO of BII, said, “This program is one example of our goal to provide world class professional development opportunities on island”.

“Professor Mayo currently teaches ‘FIELD, Field Immersion Experiences for Leadership Development,’ a required experiential, field‐based course in the first year of the MBA Program. He previously co‐created and taught the course: “Great Business Leaders: The Importance of Contextual Intelligence”. In addition, Tony teaches extensively in leadership‐based executive education programs.

“He recently co‐authored the textbook Management. His previous coauthored works include In Their Time: The Greatest Business Leaders of the 20th Century, which has been translated into 5 languages, Paths to Power: How Insiders and Outsiders Shaped American Business Leadership, and Entrepreneurs, Managers and Leaders: What the Airline Industry Can Teach Us About Leadership.

“Since the program’s inception last year, the program has been held twice and 22 professionals have taken the course.”
