Bermuda Invitational Permit Meet Results

Para-athlete, Jessica Lewis, competing in Bermuda for the first time in years, enjoyed a win in the Para 800 meters at the Invitational Permit Meet at the National Stadium on Saturday [July 1].

Lewis finished with a time of 2 min 32.48 sec, with Canadians Jessica Frotten and Iliana Dupont following in 2:35.26 and 2.38.47 respectively.

Lewis hopes to continue this success the World Championships in London next month.

Tyrone Smith, who will also represent the island at the championships, came in second in the long jump at Saturday’s meet, with a leap of 8.06. Smith was out-matched by American athlete Michael Hartfield, who won the event with a jump of 8.21.

Bermudian sprinter Tre Houston also enjoyed considerable success finishing in third in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.68. Jamaican Oshane Bailey and Ryan Shield beat Houston with times of 10.59 and 10.63 respectively, while Bermuda’s Kyle Webb followed in sixth place with a time of 10.86.

Lamont Marshall made Bermuda proud with a second place in the Men’s 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 8.58.99, following US athlete Donald Cowart who won in 8.57.65.

Sakari Famous also represented Bermuda in the high jump, finishing third with a leap of 1.70. Jamaican Saniel Akinson-Grier and American Tynita Butts tied for first with jumps of 1.83.
