One Internet Service Now “Fully Operational”

January 2, 2018

One Communications said their internet service is “once again fully operational” explaining that the “intermittent degradation of speeds that began on the afternoon of Sunday, December 31st was a result of severe freezing weather conditions which damaged fibre cabling on the East Coast of the US.”

CEO Frank Amaral said, “At approximately 1:30pm AST on Sunday, December 31st, our operations team identified an initial network instability issue. After further investigation it was determined that the source of the issue was in the US where we deliver all of our internet traffic.

“By late evening, around 10pm AST, our US service providers confirmed that there was a fault impacting multiple customers in addition to One Communications.

“While we don’t have the full details yet, we understand that the issue and delayed repair efforts stemmed from severe freezing weather conditions along the East Coast which damaged a portion of fibre cabling in Rhode Island.

“The fault lead to reduced internet speeds intermittently for approximately 33 hours. Network services were fully normalized around 10pm AST on Monday, January 1st.

“Our sincerest apologies go out to our customers for the service impact, along with our delayed communications on the issue. Needless to say we’re very frustrated by the event especially with it occurring over the holiday, knowing how everyone is so dependent on their internet services.

“An internal review on the fault has already begun, inclusive of our overseas service providers, in order to assess and improve our diagnosis, resolution and communication processes.”

What crap! Our internet is still under a (1)MB this morning. They make up half this stuff. Bermuda needs better than their excuses. The internet has been intermittently slow for the past few weeks. Come on Frank, let’s stabilize your service and provide us with what we are paying for…

    • I agree: this terrible service has been going on for a lot longer than ’33 hours’… my wife thinks it’s Cablevision’s revenge for all those people who dropped their TV subscriptions and now have internet TV … that’s as plausible as anything else.

Meanwhile while One will ask for compensation from the overseas service provider for the outage, you will get none…zilch as the end user!

  3. Jus' Wonderin' says:

So will we get a discount on the bill or maybe extend the “free” channels until the end of January? Show your human side ONE!

      The definition og a 6 for a 9 !

You go to the supermant for a dozen eggs , when you get home you find that you only have ten now if you pay more you get more , is this gouging the same with I.S.P. speed?

Just imaging if B.E.L.Co were to reduce the supply voltage.
      or
The Hospital were to shut its doors at 1.30 P M

Ok ! EVERY ” ONE” lets Crank it up . This half a cake will not do !

Hard to believe cold weather froze the light passing through a fibre cable.
Sounds like a cover up to me….

This is an example of why Bermuda can never be a tech hub.

  6. Nik says:

Mine has been consistently worse since we have been upgraded to fibrewire, it was still bad until last night, so yeah, that’s not an excuse…really???
