I was recently invited to the Hamilton Princess to experience their new afternoon tea in partnership with Lili Bermuda. As a tea enthusiast, I immediately said yes without even asking any questions.

When I arrived, I was seated at a table set with lovely china, which really set the tone for the level of afternoon tea I was about to experience. The manager for Crown & Anchor came over and explained how the tea worked after handing me a glass of champagne.

I was invited to select a tea, which was then paired with a perfume from Lili Bermuda. The teas were categorized into Floral, Floral Fruity, Fruity, Sweet and Earthy.

Varieties included Creamy Earl Grey paired with Sunkiss, a perfume with Bermuda loquat orange flower and vanilla cream. Another was Princess Diana’s Pink Iced Tea paired with Pink, a perfume with pink mimosa, grapefruit and peonies.

I decided to go for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Royal Wedding Blend tea, which paired with Southwater, a perfume with coconut milk, juicy guava and sea salt. I’m a big fan of the royal couple.

When the tea was served, the server brought over a small bowl of the loose leaf tea and a swatch of the perfume for me to understand why they were paired.

It was fascinating to me because I never would’ve thought to pair tea with fragrance, but it went so well together. The perfume was light and refreshing and so was the tea.

Food, the best part of afternoon tea, came next with plain and chocolate scones, matcha green tea cheese cake, lavender raspberry tartlet, dark chocolate profiterole, orange Battenberg cake and rose macarons.

The savouries, my favourite part, included smoked salmon with cream cheese, slow roasted turkey and cheese, roast beef with mustard, cucumber and kale beet hummus.

The sandwiches were full of flavor and went well with the tea. The scones were exactly how I like my scones – crumbly and light. The sweets were delicious but for me, they were an afterthought thanks to the wonderful finger sandwiches and scones.

This was the most interesting afternoon tea I’d been to in a while. I love going for afternoon tea so getting a unique experience with Lili Bermuda was wonderful. I can’t recommend it enough.
