October 1, 2018

Bermuda’s Tyler Butterfield raced to a second place finish at the Ironman 70.3 Cozumel in Mexico on Sunday, crossing the line in a time of 3:49:25 to capture the silver medal.

Michael Weiss was first in 3:47:14, Tyler Butterfield was second, Alan Carrillo Avila was third in a time of 3:52:33, Francisco Serrano was fourth in 3:55:53, while Chris Leiferman rounded out the top five in a time of 3:58:06.

Mr Butterfield finished the swim in a time of 22.16, recorded a time of 2.07 on the bike, and then finished the run in a time of 1:16.

This weekend was an outstanding one for local triathletes as while Tyler Butterfield – a veteran athlete who has represented Bermuda on the world stage for years, making his first Olympic appearance back in 2004 — was busy winning this silver medal in Mexico, the island’s junior triathletes claimed multiple medals at the CARIFTA Triathlon in Tobago.
