59-Year-Old Arrested After Armed Robbery

[Updated] Police responded to an attempted armed robbery this morning [May 21] at Belvin’s Variety in Flatts where a man “brandishing a bladed article and demanded money”.

A police spokesperson said, “Around 11:30am today [May 21st], police officers responded to a reported attempted armed robbery at Belvin’s Variety in Flatts.

“It appears that a lone male suspect entered the store brandishing a bladed article and demanded money.

“He left with a quantity of cash. However, no injuries were sustained by staff.

“The suspect was described as a slim black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall wearing sunglasses and dark coloured pants.

“Officers are currently conducting a search of the surrounding area for the culprit.

“Any witnesses are asked to call the main police telephone number 295-0011.”

Update 3.54pm: A police spokesperson said, “It has since been confirmed that a quantity of cash was taken from Belvin’s Variety in Flatts during the reported armed robbery this morning.

“A 59-year-old man was later arrested in connection with this incident and is currently in police custody pending further inquiries.

“Any witnesses or members of the public with relevant information are now asked to call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744.”

    if he found guilty cut his a$$ and send him to prison for no less then 5 years it time that the courts be hard on criminals like this .

    I am always nervous when I go into that store, especially late at night. And I feel very bad for the poor staff who have to work behind the counter, for probably very little pay, who have to then face such insanity. If I ran this island, thieves – especially armed and violent ones – would never want to steal again, they would be punished so hard.
