Scaur & Friends Donates To Special Olympics

November 19, 2019

Funds raised in the Scaur Hill Charity Salad Tasting & Talent Night and the Scaur Charity Soup Tasting Party totaling $1,810 have been donated to the Special Olympics Charity, helping athletes pay for bowling and tennis time, horse riding, swimming, and more.

A spokesperson said, “The mission statement of the Special Olympics Charity is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

“Their aim could benefit you or a close person one day.

“With a mission statement like that, how can one not want to help the children and adults by donating funds so they can participate in a sport and sporting event? I am happy we of the Scaur Folks & Friends family pitched in to help this charity through the annual Scaur Hill Charity Salad Tasting & Talent night party to the tune of $770.

“Combine this with the $1,040 donated from the annual Scaur Charity Soup Tasting Party this past spring and Scaur & Friends have donated $1,810 to the Special Olympics Charity in 2019.

“These funds will help the athletes pay for bowling and tennis time, riding horses, swim, utilizing the running track, and more. Thank you to those who gave.

“The get-together was held on the 21st of September and went national. For the first time, it was held outside of Scaur and it was a success at the home of Sharon and Ed Swan, opposite Shelly Bay Beach. This was a beautiful, practical and scenic venue for the 30 odd folks there.

“The beach and waters on one side and the mini forestry on the other helped relax us to have a socializing time, with each other and the foods.

“Lastly, the three goals of the party were accomplished: socializing; eating healthier; and giving to charity. Join us for the Scaur Charity Soup Tasting Party in 2020.
