Swizzle South Shore To Cease Operations

May 7, 2020

The Swizzle South Shore in Warwick will “permanently cease operations,” the owner confirmed today, explaining that “the crippling effects of the Covid-19 virus and the subsequent contraction of the local economy for many months to come, it was clear that to continue on would only bring mounting debt.”

Jay Correia said, “It is with great regret that the decision has been made to permanently cease operations at The Swizzle South Shore in Warwick.

“With the crippling effects of the Covid-19 virus and the subsequent contraction of the local economy for many months to come, it was clear that to continue on would only bring mounting debt month after month that the restaurant could not bear and therefore, to preclude any further losses, we have made the difficult choice to close down.

“We would like to thank our hard working team for all their contributions that allowed us to have the success we enjoyed over the past 14 years and we are indebted to them.

“We will do our best to absorb as many of them as we can into the Swizzle Inn Bailey’s Bay team where we will be focusing all of our efforts.

“Please rest assured our staff are our most important asset and we will do all that is required of us to ensure they are properly looked after.

“Lastly, we want to thank all of the locals and visitors from around the world who supported us so well over the years. It was our privilege and honour to serve you and we hope to continue to do so at The Swizzle Inn Bailey’s Bay.”

Sad. I imagine many more restaurants won’t reopen after all this passes (if it ever does).

    • toadinthehole says:

Yup, agreed and given where things stand righty now, who in their right mind will want to take this over and open a restaurant there?

  2. bluenose says:

I am sure this will not be the last. Sad.

    • More to come says:

Rumor mill says that *some other places* might be on the block too? They are at the higher end but still in the impact zone as take out is not enough to sustain them. We have to get to some form of “distance dining” supplemented by tax holiday to help these icons survive!

  3. Bostonwhaler says:

Another business closing because of the PLP. Time for the OBA to get them out.

    • hannah says:

You know not everything is the PLP’s fault, Just incase you just came out of your hole we are in the middle of a pandemic that they surely didn’t cause. And before you say that I must be a PLP supporter, I am white and have never voted PLP but they are doing a great job so stop trying to find fault.

      • wahoo says:

No, the plp did not cause this pandemic but because of their previous “mismanagement” of our finances we are in a very weak position to cope with it. They are doing about all they can to deal with the present I will give them that. They are dragging their feet when it comes to taking pay cuts while threatening the private sector with hardship. More and more the briefings are becoming more like plp rallies than a government being open with its’ people.

      • bluenose says:

Not arguing with your point but, right now, it would be nice to have the money they frittered away during their previous administration.

        • Mixitup says:

Well let’s first start wishing for the 200 million at Caroline Bay along with the big gap in Airport revenue we will have to fill in the coming months. That will about equal the COVID 19 deficit this year.
Oh sorry, I missed the part where you ignored this and leap frogged on your mission to demonize the current administration. We see you loud and clear.

    • Pure Madness!!!! says:

Please explain how this become political, you TWAT!!!!!

  4. Swizzle you Go! says:

Jay (or if PLP listening) can we look at “Swizzle to go” option for takeaway liquor? Would help with dollars and provide some normalcy to your forever loyal patrons! Just saying we need to create a new way of doing restaurants and alcohol sales to help offset loss of dining in house!

  5. jdn says:

Let’s be honest, the food and service was pretty poor.
Location was the main asset, and the bar.
Put a real restaurant in there and it should do fine.

  6. Dejavu says:

14 years in business and 3 months without shut them down

  7. Bexster says:

So very upset to here this news… Love love Swizzle South Shore… will miss everything… The location, setting, menu but most importantly the STAFF!
