Friday Night: Police Bust in Devonshire

April 18, 2010

In our travels Friday night [Apr 16] we happened upon what appeared to be a random Police stop-n-search in Devonshire. There were approximately 12 officers traveling in two support vehicles, and we saw at least one police dog sniffing the scene.

We saw at least one young man [who looked around 17/18] get arrested, which we were told was for warrants relating to misdemeanor level crimes such as unpaid traffic fines. This information is not confirmed by official sources, and we cannot verify the authenticy of it.

One older area resident told us they believe the Police may have chosen to focus on the area lately, as a resident recently got caught with drugs, so it “brought attention” to the vicinity.

Speaking with two other residents of the area [which is not a known gang area], they stated their preference for the Police to focus on what they deemed as more serious criminal issues such as gang activity, shootings and murders. One young man told us “there isn’t any murderers around here”.
