Chris Estwanik Wins May 24th Marathon

May 24, 2010

In a win that many predicted, Chris Estwanik just won the May 24th Marathon Derby, making it three wins in a row for him. He took an early lead straight from the Somerset start, and never conceded the lead through the whole race finishing in 1:08:47.  He is pictured below crossing the finish line:

Both he and his wife Ashley ran this year as part of Team Hope, a charity that supports special needs children. Ashley Estwanik also won this year, setting a new record in the process.

The present May 24th record holder, Mr Eswanik is a former top college runner and professional runner with Nike Farm Team. His specialty was 1,500 metres, and he started branching into longer distances in recent years.

In second place was Olympic triathlete Tyler Butterfield whose mother, Debbie Butterfield is a 7-time winner of the event. The May 24th family connections don’t stop there, as Mr Estwanik is married to Mr Butterfield’s first cousin Ashley Estwanik [the female winner today], whose mother Peggy Couper also won today in the over 60 category.

Lamont Marshall, whose brother Larry Marshall won the race in 2007, came in third place. Jay Donawa rounded out the top four, with Tony Banks fifth, Christopher Harris sixth, Ashley Estwanik seventh, Mark Morrison eighth,  Simon Ashby ninth, and Ascento Russell tenth. While the rain flowed with the Cockspur and the beer was being opened Chris came motoring through mile two and half about 150 yards in front. Glasses were raised and we all agreed that is the winner for 2010^^
