A sailor and his dog were rescued after a storm severely damaged their boat while heading from the Bahamas to Bermuda. On May 19th Jean Linyns and his dog left the Bahamas on his 48 foot catamaran heading towards Bermuda, when a storm hit the boat, severely damaging it, eventually resulting in a fire onboard the boat, forcing them to abandon it for their life raft.

Mr Linyns, a native of France, and his four legged companion drifted in the Atlantic Ocean for about 8 hours prior to being rescued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and U.S. Coast Guard. They were taken to Savannah, Georgia where Mr. Linyns was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers who took part in this operation were pleased to be able to meet Mr. Linyns and his canine companion and help them both return home safely,” said John Porter, Customs and Border Protection area port director in Savannah. “We wish them well and hope both can continue their adventures at sea again in the future.
