  1. Brasco says:

    (TO THE SHOOTERS…a.k.a. Loosers)

Be like Bin Laden…Let Us All know the purpose of your shootings??!!??!?!

Senseless, Stupidity….Bored maybe??….Or Just Plain St. Brendans (M.A.W.I.) Cases.

Go and surrender yourselves to M.A.W.I…….Isn’t the medicine free up there now.

  2. KellyBermuda says:

Small island + jackass coward round-up + unlimited ammuntion + guns= problem solved.
    Hasta la vista, jerks.

  3. Truth is killin' me says:

My people of Bermuda. You need to start runnning these shooters in. If not, one day you’re gonna wake up and find out one of these guys has just shot and killed your daughter or son walking home from school or trying to catch the bus. You will be crying alone my friends!

    • Brasco says:

I feel you but to be honest…who turns in criminals?….

We need a hot line to call equiped with an action team….if or when we see non-working street guys riding up and down and sitting on walls….Bermudians can call in to the action number and have the action team out pronto to stop and search the idols….(having the action team already circulating the parishes)

calling Crime Stoppers just seems a little far feched when things are happing right before your eyes….to me Cime Stoppers is not that one time action number…and calling the Police station just seems long winded….sometimes the phone is never answered….

      • Boss Lady says:

Brasco… I think you need to come off the comment thread and move into office! I like the way you think!! *Brasco 4 Premier*!!

        • DISGUSTED says:

When you call crime stoppers you have to pay fo rthe call so how is it anonymous? Always wondered that. Just wondering

        • Wisdom says:

Brasco doesn’t have a clue. He wouldn’t get my vote.

      • Me says:

I think ya all f’in idiots! On my day off do you think i wanna be hurrassed by the police? Yes i sit on walls and ride around to handle business. The police cannot be everywhere so i feel that the public should have the right to arm and protect themselves! The police have guns, tazers, pepper spray, bullet proof vests, billy clubs, strength in numbers and the full support of the law! what does the average person have to protect themselves?
every1 got somthing to say but nuthing sensible comes out when they move their lips or in this case when they type.
Get a grip people, be ready to stand up and fight for your rights or become a victim.

        • Brasco says:

you sound like one of the shooters…eeh eeh the shooter…you part of the problem….no solution to your idol bizznezz…stay off the streets and you wouldn’t be harrassed…doh!!!

        • Tired of nonsense says:

Well tell your fellow wall sitters who are causing the trouble to lay down their weapons and relax…

We (law abiding and tax paying citizens) don’t need, want or care for this nonsense. Bermuda is not about this ignorance and never shall be…

As they say it only takes a few idiots to ruin the set for all…

          • Wisdom says:

Brasco seems to be one of those punk little dudes that hides behind a computer. He (or she) seems to have a lot to say but no solutions. If you can’t contribute, STFU.

  4. kicksomeassbdadotcom says:

LOOK BERMUDA!!! You the righteous law-abiding citizens must declare war on these enemies of our society. The citizenry are the police not just the police service. If these punks knew that a gang of citizens would hunt them down and behead or hang them at the nearest intersection this nonsense would cease. We dont need capital punishment, we only need a few outbusrsts of rage from righteous, good Bermudians. We clearly outnumber those who are destroying our civilization. Forget being passive and meek. Lets get together and (—-) really good. Have the courage to declare war on your family members who are enemies of our community. Alas, i would be accused of being radical and radical it is.

  5. terry says:

Brasco, stooping to thier levels is not the answer. The system is already in place. It’s up to the Adams and Eves that make these snakes to tender the garden or suffer along with us the present.

    • Brasco says:

How and I stooping???…..do you have a better idea, because the present isn’t working…..doh!!

  6. Nic says:

The problem is the PARENTS of these kids that are doing the shooting. If they got their sh*t together and did what parents are supposed to do, we wouldn’t be in this predicament.

    • Anonymous says:

Can someone tell me how the parents are to blame???

An individual that is over the age of 18 has a mind of their own and will do as they choose. As parents you can only lead them and hope that they take your lead in the right way. It is then upon the child to follow suit.

Come on you guys the problem is a lot deeper than that!!! Let’s face reality here!!!!!

      • Brasco says:

        I Co-sign Dat!!!

        • Wisdom says:

@Anonymous – Parents SHOULD BE BLAMED if they fail in their duty to be good responsible parents. Many parents today spoil their kids rotten. Spoiling your kids and not discipling them is a recipe for disaster. Yes, an 18 year old may have his or her own mind, but a major part of their mind is shaped by those who raised them. A part of who you are today has a lot to do with the way you were raised. Don’t think you are a good person because you were born that way – NO WAY. It has more to do with your up-bringing. When parents fail in their duty they fail their kids. There’s more to the problems than just bad parenting, but the problem usually starts with lack of parenting.

  7. Sunshine says:

It’s easy to blame the parents. And some should be given blame but parents can only do so much to raise their children the right way before they reach the age where they think for themselves and do as they please. Some of these shooters could be grown men in their 20′s and 30′s can we really say the problem is the parents. I think we all need to realize that these lot DON’T CARE! They don’t care that every week something is in the paper and that the majority of the island is just plain fed up. They DONT CARE! Someone needs to get tough…I want to say the Police but they can’t be everywhere at all times. Something has to give!

  8. terry says:

Annon and Brasco, I understand your feelings and your comments. As you know, our comments are not posted in real time so they do overlap.

As for the “present not working” you are correct. As for the “over the age of 18″, well thats null and void as it pertains to a system of up bringing, exposer and nurisment in all respects.

Things will change only when the community takes over. By that I mean ( which is documented) when parents take control, have the support of their community leaders, local government ( parish vestries, Churches, Youth Clubs/centres et al).

It is engrained in these communities that they are suffering. Fact. It is also engrained that it is acceptable to turn a blind eye. It’s acceptable that you only speak out when it affects you.

Fear is what is being presented on a daily bases. It becomes that way because people/s don’t speak out. Understandable but at some stage one must draw a line in the sand/road….( no third lanes because that is acceptable and all people/s do is bitch and moan and put up a color of a car or bike/licence plate on a blog/forum and walk away still bitching and moaning.

You’d be surprised the amount of friends people have. You’d be surprised at the racial/ethnic/religious/employment backgrounds that are a seen, felt and responded too each day.

The system/Government/ People have worked so hard for all these 400 years through thick and thin, racial devide et al yet some bunch of loonies who support their families through nefarious conduct and their families are going through hard times don’t give a shit if they shoot a neighbor who does does deal with things like they do?

640000 people made up of basic compashion, living in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean with a wealth of knowledge that only about maybe 45 thousand are real Onions. And the rest are children. So really ask yourselves who is in control.

The Police, the Government can only do so much.

Times are hard ( repetative) but guess what….Tourism/Triminghams/Smiths/Lunch wagons/Cruises/Bus Service/Ferry Service/Mom/Pop convienience stores/ a beer in a bar and just plain walking the children down Parsons Road, Deepdale, Curving Avenue/ St Monicas Mission/ Hog Bay Level/ Watford Bridge…………………

And these are only a few places. When these bastards start shooting people on Front Street, St. George Square, Fairmont/(Fair-amount) then you might see an action. For every action there is a reaction.

Why shoot someone on Court/Parsons/St.Monicas/Glebe/Sound View Road…….It’s easy and well planned. They know what the others do, at what times, police presence et al.

It’s fun and games to them.

This year should be the ….”ONIONS OLIMPICS”……………

Lets beat the bastards and the rest of the family will survive with help from the community…..

A great day too all and speak the hell up. There are 64 thousand out there who will support you. Mark my words………………………………

  9. Talk2MeStr8 says:

It really amazes me how you all can sit behind your computers and type all this bullsh#t!! You all talk as if all this shooting is affecting your lives but it really isn’t. How many of you can say you have been attacked, robbed, stabbed, chopped,ya family threatened? Your close friends killed or shot one after the other..the last shooting happened right in front of the police an the police let the shooters ride away with no chase at all. Unlike you all living safely in your little bubbles there are those of us who are living daily with a very high chance of being shot. And if the police can sit an watch somebody get shot an ride off wouldn’t you think maybe its time to protect yourself. I guess you would wait until somebody shoots you and you are another unsolved murder in Bermuda. And as for the comment about street guys riding around and sitting on walls getting police called on them since when is that illegal? Sounds like racial profiling to me. Who are you to judge anyone because they rode past you or you saw them on a wall? People like you who treat the youth like criminals because you feel that they shouldn’t sit on walls are part of the problem. You are judging people who have never had the opportunities, family support or even monetary support that you have enjoyed in your lifetimes. Maybe if their parents could afford it they would be in summer camps or swim camps. But no they can only gather an sit on walls in their neighborhoods. But that makes them criminals to you as you stick up your noses and drive past!

  10. Sunshine says:

    Double co-sign

  11. terry says:

Good one Vance. Were talking shootings and killings not people sitting on walls. I suggest you get off it (wall) and help out.

We have been through the monetary stuff numerous times. It affects all, Front Street to ‘Up Your Street’.

  12. pastor says:

I’ve read the comments above. And with few exceptions, it seems emotions (anger, frustration, guilt, fear…) take control, which is understandable. However, emotional reactions seldom solve problems, but cause new ones.
There are several levels we have to look at.
Upbringing is sure one. Education (home, school, environment) takes time though and won’t solve the nonsense we see today, immidiately.
Our school system fails many young people. The cut off date (year you turn 5) without any flexibility for individual development makes school a poor experience for those who are not ready. In Denmark and Finland you start school with 7, in preschool/Kindergarten there you don’t learn any letters of number, cloud formations (yes, that is in our public preschool curriculum) or other “academic” content, but how to interact, play a game following rules, sing together, listen to a story, hold a pencil or sissors, and how to solve problems without beating each other. We have to tackle the post colonial/victorian military style education and help children to develop morally beyond the level “Do what I say because I say so.”
That system was installed to develop subordinate subjects and onlz works with penalty, so as soon one finds out they might not see you, everything seems to be justified.
The otehr problem is the idea of “no child left behind”, which is in itself right, however, people interpreted it as if every student has to reach calculus, Science, and foreign langage at college level. No, we have to honor the God given talents and intelligence of individuals. About 50% of our high school students would do much better and might get a diploma in schools that teach them trades, develop their talents and help them to find their way. The other 50% would do eben better without those whose talents are in a different field. Look at sports as an example, not every child is talented for football, some are much better at swimming, or hockey, or track and field, volleyball, badminton… With education it should be the same. Develop talents where they are and children will trust in their future.
Parents and other people, children look up to, have to get there act together as well if they want to break the circle. Glorifying their own drug abuse of “having a little pot” back in the day, heavy drinking, or a language using swear words all day, and “exploding” at every little thing will teach children around you that that is “normal” behavior. Your child looks up to you! Be a modell. Talk to your child the way you want your child talk, care for your child the way you wnat your child care. We also have to learn not to use money (or how much you could make one day) as the only goal in life. Unfortunately this only promotes crime for some kids who don’t see a future in an academic career. There is a lot of money in drugs. And if money is the only thing that counts, people might die or kill for it. More important is to help our children find and work for a career that will fulfill them and will supplement their character and talent and at the same time will rpovide enough to live of. To be content is a virtue we have to pass on. There will always be some who have more, however, even Oprah can only sleep in one bed a ta time, drive in one car at a time and (should) only eat one meal at a time. Sure it would be nice to have a little extra and some money for fun, however, dreaming about it is half the fun. Teach your children that you have to work for a living, and that it can actually be fun if you find a job you like. Better a happy plumber than a miserable office worker or vis versa (it depends on the individual, not the job).
As a Christian I also believe it helps to model to your child that being religious can help to keep perspective in life. If you don’t like the style of the church you were brought up in, try a different one. You will be surprised about the differences between Pentecostals, Methodist, AME, Lutheran, 7th Day, Presbyterian, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Cornerstone, Brethren and so on. However, if parents work 7 days a week two or three jobs just because they want to provide everything for their children (own laptop, blackberry, tv, brand new chrome blinking bike, designer clothing, bought lunch, sodas, chips…) they will actually withhold from their children what they need most: time and fun together. I know that for some it is difficult to make it financially without the second income, but at the same time evaluate what is essential and what only seems to be so desireable because your surroundings (TV) tells you you have to have it. We are human being, not human doings or human havings.
Finally, what to do with the crime today:
LEave it to the gorvernment (police and judical system) to get them off the street, but be supportive. To close an eye if the coward is form your neighborhood or extended family is not right. Report what you know now!
If someone uses a gun (or other weapon) he is a coward and chicken and does not deserve any protection from police. But your children, your spouse, your parents, they deserve protection from those cowards. That is wh they need to be arrested and jailed. Then we should as a community spend money to hel them turn around while they are in there. Yes, spend money on them, because in a way we failed them as a society or as parents when they were younger.
If you have teenagers in your house, take time with them (yes, they are a different species, and it is hard to talk with them, but do it). Be a parent and be in control. If need be put a chain through the wheels (that is good if you see them speeding, riding with open helmet, dirink driving… as well), don’t just allow them to do how they please even if Joe is allowed. Your child is not Joe. Explain to your child your values. Ask questions if they bring homw expensive stuff you did not puy for them. If they buy you expensive stuff though you know they don’t even have a job, confront them and don’t accept the gift. (I can’t hear those mothers anymore who say: he was such a good bay, he bought me everything I needed). If they have money they did not work for it is illigal or at least immorally gained money, believe me. Remember, money is not everything!
We need to change our values as a community. We need to be commited to make this a better place. (I cannot believe that some people did not even clean in forn of their house after Igor).
Can we do it? Yes we can. Let us begin.
