Small Residential Fire in Friswells Hill

This morning [Nov 4] there was a small fire in a residence in the Friswells Hill, Pembroke area which saw one resident suffer minor smoke inhalation after taking action to get another resident of the home, who is wheelchair bound, to safety.

The Fire Service says that a call was received via 911 at 11:36, of the lower apartment of a 2 story dwelling being on fire at #39 Friswell’s Road, Pembroke.

The Bermuda Fire Service responded with 2 fire appliances 1 support vehicle, and 9 personnel. First fire appliance arrived on scene at 11:40 am to discover that a pan of grease was left on a stove which caught on fire.

Officials say the fire subsequently spread to the kitchen cabinets when an occupant tried to extinguish it. However the fire was quickly extinguished in a matter of minutes by 2 firefighters in breathing apparatus.

There were two occupants in the apartment at the time, one which was confined to a wheelchair. In an effort to get the wheelchair bound occupant to safety, the other occupant suffered minor smoke inhalation and was attended to by firefighter EMT’s on scene.

Damage is estimated to be approximately $2,000.00
