Videos: Students Pack African-Bound Donations

November 25, 2010

Students, staff and parents from Mount St. Agnes are undertaking a special project in conjunction with The Pembroke Rotary Club of Bermuda – collecting good to be shipped to Gambia, West Africa. Students have been working furiously all week to sort and pack the containers after donations poured in from the students and local businesses including Sports Source and International Sports Shop.

Below two MSA students, Taylor Peniston and Kelly Franco, talk about their school’s effort:

Bernews stopped by today [Nov 25] to find the MSA students bustling away working to organize and pack the myriad of donations. MSA said “Our central goal for this project is to help the community of Brikama Jamisa to build a library for the children and adults.”

The school had challenged to the members of the Mount Saint Agnes Academy community to collect no less than 1000 books for the new library – which they have been told will be named after Mount Saint Agnes Academy. The goal of 1,000 books was completely shattered, with the community donating over 4,000 books to furnish the library in West Africa.

Approximately 15 staff members from CTC Insurance Management (Bermuda) joined in to assist in packing the container today. A spokesperson from CTC said “The rationale and inspiration for the involvement of CTC in supporting the community is driven by the company’s commitment to playing an active role in furthering the well-being of any communities in which it operates.” The company says they “are proud to partner with the Mount St. Agnes and The Pembroke Rotary Club of Bermuda on their Caravan of Mercy project.”
