Open Your Heart Foundation — which Bermudian Quinton DeShield is involved in — recently held a cleaning event dubbed ‘Planet Over Profit’ in Luanda, Angola.
A spokesperson said, “On 6th June 2020, the Foundation sponsored a Planet Over Profit cleaning event in Luanda, Angola. The project was aimed at assisting the street kids and young adults hit hard economically by the ongoing crisis.
“The project went well and we were able to hire 20 litter pickers and four kids and we collected a total of 85, 120 litre trash bags.
“This was mainly the plastic pollution that was in the streets around the Marginal where we split groups in blocks according to where they live.
“They were all paid $5 [average wage is $2 per day] and were provided water, while the kids earn the same amount of money, but were also bought rice and chicken so they could have a warm meal.”
