Inflation in Bermuda Dips to 3%

December 7, 2010

Inflation in Bermuda dipped slightly in October, dropping to 3 percent from the 3.4 percent recorded in September according to figures released by the Statistics Department today [Dec 7].

The September figure had represented the highest recorded rate since February, 2009 — when inflation stood at 4.4 percent. The Health & Personal Care sector was the largest contributor to the year-over-year inflationary spike in October — with Bermudian consumers paying 7.6 per cent more for health care costs than they did in October, 2009. The Food and Rent sectors of the economy also impacted strongly on the annual rate of inflation, as price jumps in these sectors were 3.6 per cent and 1.9 per cent respectively, said the department.
