Watson Honoured by Atlanta City Council
Bermudian Motivational Speaker Dennis Rahiim Watson was honored and praised recently by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, and honored with a proclamation signed by the fifteen members of the City Council for his dedication and commitment for saving young black males from gun violence and gang warfare.
Mr Watson is pictured below with Congressman John Lewis [D-GA], the veteran civil rights leader:
In a letter to Mr. Watson, City Council President Ceasar Mitchell stated, “The fact that you were honored by President Barack Obama for addressing youth and gang violence is a testament to the leadership, dedication, and commitment that you provide to America’s youth helping them to become future leaders, role-models and achievers in a globally competitive world. On behalf of the people of Atlanta, I am honored to welcome you to our City. I am confident that the vision and message provided to Atlanta’s youth will bring our youth community together.”
“Additionally, a proclamation was presented to Dennis Rahiim Watson by the Atlanta City Council for his tireless dedication for providing safety and knowledge to the African American community and for having conducted over 1,000 seminars and workshops on anger management, conflict resolution, pride in appearance, self-control, self-discipline and forgiveness resolution. Dennis Rahiim Watson, the proclamation continued is a true role-model for us all and we thank him for his unselfish and outstanding track record of service to Black youth throughout urban areas of our nation.”
Dennis Rahiim Watson stated, “I have great respect for the National Black Caucus of State Legislators for having chosen me as the 2010 Keynote Speaker from a pool of thousands of powerful motivational speakers from around the country. The special treat for me is having been chosen as the Youth Congress Speaker four times in 10 years. It is a blessing from God to be valued and respected for my gifts and skills in helping to change the lives of angry young black males in communities throughout the United States.”
Dennis Rahiim Watson, in his keynote address titled, ‘Life Lessons from Black Mothers–Strategies to Get Black Males to Love and Respect Each Other in Order to End Gun Violence’, to an enthusiastic audience of young people, Mr Watson stated, “Death in no joke! Once you are dead you’re dead! This is the only life you’ve got. It is your responsibility to THINK things through, control your emotions, to control your tongue–to tell yourself to shut up when provoked, to stay away from knuckleheads, thugs and the criminal elements in your communities.”
“Only those who have a purpose in life, some goals, a mission, a sense of drive and ambition will be able to escape the nonsense and foolishness that engulfs our communities. It is time for black fathers to man-up and go out in the streets and save their sons and their daughters from going down the path of self-destruction.”
Over 1,000 state legislators from throughout the U.S. gathered in Atlanta to address the pressing issues of the day such as unemployment, health insurance, education, public safety and gun violence was at the top of the list. Anyone else think it’s ironic that a Bermudian is being honoured elsewhere for dealing with the same problems we are facing here, but for some reason Bermuda’s decision makers don’t want him here to help us?
Mr Watson is a credit to our country, and we don’t appreciate him in return. Crabs in a bucket, as usual.
