Kramer Elected: American Ballet Theatre Board
The National Dance Foundation of Bermuda today [Jan 27] announced that its chairman, insurance executive Donald Kramer, has been elected chairman of the Board of Governing Trustees of American Ballet Theatre [ABT].
Mr. Kramer, who has headed the National Dance Foundation since its inception in 2003, has served on ABT’s Board since 2005. ABT Executive Director Rachel Moore today paid tribute to Mr. Kramer in a press release announcing his appointment, saying “Don Kramer’s commitment to American Ballet Theatre over the past five years has been unfailing. I’m confident his leadership of the Board will bode well for our future.”

Mr. Kramer said that while he is looking forward to his new role at ABT, his commitment to Bermuda and the National Dance Foundation remains unchanged. “American Ballet Theatre is a unique institution, designated by an act of the U.S. Congress as America’s National Ballet Company,” said Mr. Kramer. “ I am truly honoured to have been chosen by my fellow members of the Board to help guide this stellar organization through its next period of growth and development.
“But my dedication to the National Dance Foundation and to the Bermuda dance community remains steadfast. In the seven years since we established the Foundation, we have provided world-class training opportunities to hundreds of talented dancers in Bermuda. We have given half a million dollars in scholarships, bursaries and financial aid. We have established relationships with some of the world’s most highly regarded dance schools and companies, including ABT, The Ailey School and Juilliard.
“And, working with ABT, we have established DanceBermuda, a three-week international summer intensive that enables Bermuda dancers to study and perform with students from the US, Canada, the U.K. and Europe.
“While my commitment to the National Dance Foundation is unchanged, I know that I will be busy with my responsibilities at ABT, so I am pleased to announce that Brian O’Hara, former President and CEO of XL Capital, has joined the Foundation’s Board. Brian has been appointed to the position of Vice Chairman and also to the position of Chairman of the Development Committee. With Brian’s energetic support and his firm belief in the Foundation’s mission, I know we will go from strength to strength as we enter our seventh year of providing Bermuda’s dance community with world-class training opportunities”
