Week #2: Bermuda Regiment Recruit Camp
Week Two of the Bermuda Regiment Recruit Camp commenced with two overnight exercises, giving all four of the platoons an opportunity to practice the skills they were introduced to throughout Week One training – fieldcraft and tactical patrolling being the big part of what they have now practiced at Morgan’s Point.

Also during that phase they had an extension of the training they received on Day One during the Firepower Demo. During this overnight phase the Recruits experienced the full effect of pyrotechnics (flares) and how they affect night operations. Rifle lessons and drill lessons continue in Week Two, and the competitions are ramping up – sports events, and the Assault Course Competition and the Battle Run are big parts of Week Two, and shooting scores in the Falling Plate Competition to be held on Friday 28 January, also factor in to the overall final awarding of Champion Platoon status.

A Regiment spokesperson said: “While the Recruits are focused on competitions between the Platoons in Week Two, they are also fully aware that there is only one team colour in the Regiment once these Recruits finish their first camp and fall in as soldiers, to start the remainder of their training year – the colour green.”

The Open House and Platoon Drill Competition event will be held on this coming Saturday [Jan 29]. The Regiment said members of the public are asked to park in the bottom car park of Chaplain Bay opposite the entrance to Warwick Camp, and should aim to be walking through the gates of camp by 2:00pm. The arrival of the Governor and the Acting Premier will take place soon thereafter, and the drill competition gets underway at 2:30pm.
Good for BR…..no matter the objections from ‘those bies’ daddy that think his bies are not grown up enough to even speak for themselves, much less serve their time. Seriously, I think that any male between 18 – 35 that is not gainfully employed should be conscripted…..better than sitting on the wall
The problem is all the men that are gainfully employed like myself were conscripted and those byes that sit on the wall are still sitting on the wall because they don’t go or they don’t get called up. Not being funny but the Regiment definately impacted my career in a negative way. I missed vital time in January, my company were not happy in anyway with the time I missed out of work, turning up exhausted on a Monday morning because I was playing soldier all weekend till Sunday night. To top it off I had to limit the amount of exams I could take in the year, because I had weekends taken up by Warwick Camp and time in Jan etc. There is actually an exam window open now I am playing catch up in because I could not do the Jan exams before because of two week camp.
Just wondering what part of the Regiment your in? As I understand it the weekend camps have stopped due to budget cuts and also i’ve never heard of a weekend camp going on till a Sunday night, Sunday noon sure but never a night.
To the Recruits, keep it up. it will be interesting to see who will win the the plate falling contest. I’ll be coming to see the Drill on Saturday so just remember to step off together.

And yes I recall being there till 6pm some days on a Sunday after having very little sleep all weekend. Needless to say it impacted my ability to work to my full potential on a Monday morning. But why am I justifying myself to you anyway you must be an RP or something.
No I am not an RP, but as the name says just wondering. Your first post was a little confusing since it sounded like u were in the regiment. But yes 2yrs ago the regiment was a different place, so thank you for clearing that up.

It’s good that BAD is doing what they’re doing, bout time somebody stood up for what they feel is a miscarriage of colonization!! Say what you feel, you ALL aren’t gonna be so pleased when they’re throwing you into prison camps!! Remember HISTORY repeats itself!! The same Regiment that your fighting to defend… sigh!!
Through history all good changes were made as a result of people standing up against oppression. It is the good fight! The powers that be are too selfish and so are so many Bermudians to give their young men the choice. They feel it does good but they have no idea what it is like because they have never been there. The world once thought slavery was good! The world once thought only men should be in positions of power. And look how wrong people were then. Where is the Progression in the PLP nowadays, the very first word and what they stand for. ‘One step forward and two steps backward’. Babylon system continues to fool us.

Colonization
An enforcer of slavery and/or prison camps
Babylon
…is to do an injustice to and make light of the aforementioned atrocities and confirms that either you have no real perception of the gravity of slavery and colonization or you are delusional.
I say that in the kindest possible way.
The only thing that I compared was that they were legal and ok with society at one point and now they are not. Why? because of change. Forcing someone to do something against their will if they have broken no law and removing rights and freedoms are basic things we strived to erradicate in modern day Democracy. Good for you for serving! I commend you. I think the Bermuda Regiment needs to be made a professional force that is manned by people who want to be there and have chosen to be there. As a Tax payer, I think my $$ are better served in that way. Maybe then we would have something to be proud of in the way of a professional military. You would not even have negative comments on Blog pages. There would only be the Bermuda Regiment in a positive light!

The BMA/BVRC et al got along. Worked for the coumtry and their families are and where why we are here now. At this stage, some abuse the hard work that brought about many changes. Everyday brings new things. It’s life until it is taken away from you.

What this Government needs to do is get rid of conscription. No one would have a problem with a volunteer army (actually, why does Bermuda need one at all?). Maybe a volunteer Bermuda Naval unit? There’s an idea.
Never will happen as long as the Goverment keep slasing The Regiment budget. The goverment love conscription, I mean why spend money to make The Regiment atractive to join when you can conscript.
The Regiment wants to change/mondernise but the goverment wont give it the funds its needs to do that. Untill that changes conscription will contiue.

Hell, lets call a shipyard, get specs on ‘reef roamers’ with guided misel capabilities. Hell get two vessels. We could even get 3 Ghost Ships from the James River in Virginia ( $20 a piece)-(shipping and handling not included)
Two weeks, free meals, hard work, fun, getting to know others plus $1000…+ learing that others are in the same boat as you and many worse off than you.

conscription should be cut for 18-35 year olds,to force a responsible adult to attend the regiment is mad when you have young men geting out of high school at 16 17 with nothing to do..and thats were our problem in society lies its at our young boys..make it mandatory from 16-21 and that eliminates a small problem with the way young ones think comeing out of high school.my first summer out of high school i had 2 choices,go get a job or sell drugs and growing up on angle street helpd me make my mind up that selling drugs was my only option.by the time i was 18 and the army called me i was not to pleased but i only attended because 2 weeks before 2 week camp i was caught importing weed and thought it might look good in court if i went,but that didnt even help.i got 3 years up west and the day before i got out the army called and told me i needed to start all over after finishing 3 years up west.i did not go and whenever i saw that truck the chase was on,they never caught me and after 5 years they gave up
Go get a job or sell drugs? and because you grew up on angle street your only option was selling drugs?…….you just contradicted ourself son you had “2″ choices and you CHOSE to sell drugs. You made a poor mistake probably due to misguidance and peer pressure….you my friend need the army. I wish you the best and i am not being sarcastic in saying so.
lol your narrow minded..yea at 17 i had 2 choices sell drugs for fast money to get all the glamorous things i saw what fast money brings you or work like a slave and wait a few years to get things i could get in 1 week selling drugs and i am man enough to say i took a wrong turn..i was young and from were i was siting dealing seemed like the best option..all i am trying to say is government should look at changeing the age they force people to attend a bogus army..get this young ones str8 out of high school and if you can convince them at that age life has alot to offer then they stand a better chance of gaining moral value and responsibility…the older you get you stand less of a chance of adapteing to responsibility the responsible way
