Upcoming Forum: Strengthening Our Community
Sandys 360 today announced they will host a public forum entitled, Strengthening Our Community. The forum will take place on Thursday, February 10 starting at 7:00pm in the Sandys 360 gymnasium.
Panelists for the evening will be:
- Glenn Blakeney, Minister for Youth, Family, Sports and Community Development;
- Mrs. Martha Dismont, Executive Director for the Family Centre;
- Mr. Alfred Maybury, President of Somerset Cricket Club and Director of Child and Family Services;
- Makai Dickerson, a young man who is active in the community; and
- Dr. Melvyn Bassett, retired Principal and Managing Director of Sandys 360.
In making the announcement, Managing Director, Dr. Melvyn Bassett stated, “Tomorrow’s forum is to bring the community together to begin a conversation to identify opportunities that exist for us to work together and find ways to support our young people.”
Dr. Bassett added, “We know that when solutions are found in the community they are intended to support, they are accepted and implemented faster and tend to be far more successful than when solutions are imposed. This forum will be different from other forums in that we will give everyone who is present an opportunity to have their voice heard. We know the answers will exist in the room and it will be our objective to find creative ways to ensure we walk away with solid and concrete ideas that we can share with a wider audience and also begin to look at how we can implement them.”
“Everyone in Bermuda is invited to attend the forum tomorrow evening at 7:00pm. I know together we will find ways to continue to strengthen our community,” Dr. Bassett concluded.
