Maybury Gets 9 Years For Attempt On Yankee

March 29, 2011

Alvone Maybury aka the “Facebook Fugitive” was today [Mar.29] sentenced to nine years in prison for conspiring to shoot Raymond “Yankee” Rawlins, who was subsequently shot and killed in an unrelated shooting.

Mr Maybury had previously pleaded guilty to conspiring with Anthony Swan and other persons not before the court to cause Mr Rawlins grievous bodily harm. The incident occurred on December 16th 2009 outside the C&R Discount Store on Court Street at approximately 10:30am that morning.

His co-accused Anthony Swan has already been sentenced to 12 years in prison. The CCTV video footage of the incident was released by the Police and used as evidence during Mr Swan’s trial. It can be viewed below:

Mr Maybury is currently serving a 13.5 year jail term, after being convicted of a number of firearm charges relating to an unrelated incident in December 2009, as well as his infamous escape during which he updated his Facebook page. The nine year term handed down today will run concurrent to his current prison sentence.

Mr Rawlins was murdered in a subsequent unrelated shooting – also on Court Street – on August 9, 2010. David Cox has been charged with his murder, which he denies.

THAT’S IT?!?…9 Years for conspiring to kill with a gun…WTF!!…..

Conspire to bring in some Weed and you’ll get way more than that….Damn, Bermuda Judges suck!

    • ppl r human beings n deserve to b treated with respect no matter where they come from or wt race they r says:

      exactly

    • will says:

yeh this sentence is absoloutely stupid..with you on bringing in the harmless substance most people want (capitalist economics 101) but yeh give the guy a concurrent sentence, bermuda courts have their priorities so twisted it makes the hamilton roundabout look straight…

  2. itwasn'tme says:

At least Mabury was man enough to plead guilty to his stupidity….these other boys are nothing but ……. well, its not even worth mentioning

  3. Listen Up says:

Why a concurrent sentence Judge? That guy laughed in the Justice System’s face. He needs a consecutive sentence.
This only encourages fools to reoffend while out on bail or as a suspect. They are thinking “I’m going to get the same time anyway – might as well shoot someone else or go after some witnesses”.

  4. Mel says:

What a waste of time and tax payers’ money!!! Why do these Magistrates keep handing down concurrent sentences?

  5. KMHBermuda says:

9 years….and concurrently? You have GOT to be kidding me.

    • ppl r human beings n deserve to b treated with respect no matter where they come from or wt race they r says:

      exactly!

  6. Terry says:

42nd Street, take note. Parkside, comming your way. Be safe.

  7. Bermudian says:

9 YEARS???????????????????????????????????? He will be out in 3 because you only have to do a third of your time….this is rediculous!!!!! ‘Attempted Murder’ and ‘Murder’ should be handed the SAME sentence as the INTENT is the same!!!!!!!!!! So basically he is being rewarded with less time because he missed his target??!!!! what on earth….c’mon people….we need to make sure these lowlifes are put away for LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!! period….you want to take a life? well then you loose yours!!

    • ppl r human beings n deserve to b treated with respect no matter where they come from or wt race they r says:

i know someone who got 15years for attempted murder with a gun> so why is this man getting 9? on top of that he escaped, so he should have been charged more for that. but he got 9? wow, i guess the more crime you do the less time you do. no wonder people are shooting one another. they are probably saying if they kill a man they will get less time for attempting to kill.

  8. Seriously? says:

Concurrent? Are you serious? So he is not being punished for trying to kill someone. He’s not being punished for brandishing a gun, shooting that gun in a crowded club on a crowded street? My children get more of a punishment for talking back to their elders.

This is so pathetic. So sad. This island really is going downhill fast. Welcome to Bermuda – a 3rd world country run by thugs.

  9. Terry says:

@ it wasn’t me……..thats what it’s all about. Inforcement now have tons of info of who, what, where…….

Plea deal. Keep him isolated or send him off..( never know, might be gone by now)

  10. Jah says:

Different crime – do more time!

    His sentence should run consecutively.
What’s the point of sentencing him if he is already doing a longer stretch for another conviction? These gun crimes are so serious that they are starting to effect the economy and nation as a whole. The courts need to send a message that this kind behavior won’t be tolerated. With good behavior he will be out in a few years. Crazy!

  11. lifeblood says:

9 years for attempted murder? Concurrent with previous sentence?? really? That’s unheard of and higly suspect! Come on…what mysterious men in high ‘secret’ places oversaw that arrangement?

    • Jim Garlic says:

As far as the law is concerned ,this is a dead issue;no pun intended !!!

  12. mixitup says:

This Justice System is a Joke!! Concurrent? are they serious? hell, at least say 5 of the 9 will run concurrent and the remainder will be in addition to….Sheessshh!!!!!

  13. Eron Hill says:

What everyone has to understand is that this man despite his wrongs, has pleaded guilty, repented, and helped to take a firearm off the streets. And the charge was not “attempted murder”! It was “conspiracy to shoot someone”.There is a difference in the two. Conspiracy ranges from a simple conversation or to a phone call. This young man has had a troubled life and deserves to rehabilitated and then given a 2nd chance. My prayer is that this is what he gets

    • Itcouldhappen says:

Eron, you are right – Where there is life there is always hope. Let’s pray that something sinks into his troubled mind to cause him to turn his life around.

  14. Nicole says:

He needs to be locked away forever, he’s a danger to society. Just like if that other mental case rapist was behind bars for life an innocent teen would still be alive today.

  15. White Jesus says:

The laws of nature don’t change for people who jump off off cliffs. The justice system shouldn’t either. The law should be:
    Attempted Murder = Execution
    Murder = Execution
    Rape/molestation = Execution
Armed Robbery with firearm = Execution
Theft without firearm = chop off hands
Breaking & Entering = Breaking and entering your skull (maybe)
All other crimes can be dealt with with prison time and or fines.
Trust me people will think twice if they knew that pulling a trigger is the same as killing one’s own self, inadvertently.
    CAPITAL PUNISHMENT!!!!

    • bermyshotta says:

@ whitejesus – would never happen bra. haha may sound nice but what happens when sumbody gets wrongly accused?! uh der goes ya brother, cousin, daddy, etc. OOPS. no more hands/dead ya can’t bring em back…then wah?

      • fair says:

Locking up someone for 10 years who was wrongly accused would be just as bad, no ammount of compensation would ever be enough! Convictions for capital punishment need to be based on watertight evidence.

        • bermyshotta says:

@ fair – watertight evidence in bermy?! you already answered ya own statement.

  16. Au Contraire says:

Hey can I pay my parking ticket and my speeding fine ‘concurrently’ too?

  17. Hey Jude says:

The elite will rise and the illuminati will take over. Its coming the NWO

  18. SO says:

Free Alvone! U ppl make me sick! Quick 2 judge somebody dat u don’t know.

    • Totally Disgusted says:

Well if he did this then he should be behind bars its not about judging anyone frankly I have seen him around before all this and he came off as a nice guy, BUT even though he may be nice he has obviously made some bad decisions which has put him where he is today. How would you feel if someone tried to do the same to him and only got 9 years, I am sure you would be feeling the same way others feel now. So really if this is your boy go ahead and support him, but don’t get all defensive when others are happy to see the man who “allegedly” shot and/or shot at someone they know or cared about put behind bars.

    • SOMERSET OG says:

@So! Alvone is a really nice guy! He didn’t escape from custody. He was just running to go find the gun and bring it back to the cops. He said a lot of nice things on facebook too and kept us updated on his progress in finding the gun. All innocent people should follow his example by being well behaved, kind and curteous and having nothing but love and respect for all people just like Alvone. I’m sure he’s a good speller just like you SO! With all of that edumacation you be done has I can see why you and Alvone don’t have time for crime with all of that intellectual curiosity that you possess!

  19. Time will tell says:

As far as I’m concerned “his the guy in the video” should have been attempted to murder NOT conspiracy!!!!

  20. Wow... says:

A woman gets 13 years for bringing in drugs & this guy only gets 9 for “conspiracy to shoot someone”? It HAS to be something wrong with that. The judge is probably scared to give these guys longer convictions because he fears for his own life. Some Justice System we have…

    • My two cents says:

You read my mind! Just posted that on another story. How crazy is this? WHY IS BERMUDIAN SOCIETY ENABLING MEN WHO ACT LIKE CHILDREN?? This is the REAL DISEASE that plagues our island!

  21. My two cents says:

The new organization should be WAMWALC, Women against men who act like children!!
