Photos: Miss Bermuda Entrants & Seniors Tea

March 28, 2011

Miss Bermuda contestants spent yesterday afternoon [Mar.27] serving attendees at the Seniors Tea at Cedarbridge Academy. The invitation-only ‘Hat and Gloves Tea’ tea marked the conclusion of the month long celebration of International Women’s Day, with this year marking the 100th Anniversary of International Women’s Day.

Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Families, Sports and Community Development’s Department of Human Affairs, the event was held to salute a number of senior women who have provided outstanding community service in Bermuda.

The invitees were selected by various community and seniors organizations. Acting Minister of Youth, Families, Sports and Community Development Michael Weeks was on hand to welcome the invitees and entertainment included the CedarBridge Academy Student Quartet, the Total Praise Dance Group from Corner Stone Bible Fellowship, and guest speaker Mrs. Gita Blakeney-Saltus.

The ladies present spanned generations, as contestants in the upcoming Miss Bermuda pageant spent the afternoon serving tea to the seniors present.

Seventeen young ladies ages 18-25 entered this year’s competition; Cratonia Smith, Kylah Burch, Deonae Dickinson, Dawnita Smith, Selita Crockwell, Davika Hill, Geisha Saltus, Kalvilicia Joell, Davina Cannonier, Sharmaine Landy, Renee Tucker, Jasmine Simmons, Rachel Sawden, Alisha Phillips, Channing Dill, Cheyenne Darrell, and Jana Lynn Outerbridge. You can view individual photos of the contestants here.

The Miss Bermuda Pageant is under the direction of Milika Seymour, who is a former winner of the Miss Big and Beautiful pageant, a former pageant judge, and Managing Director of Blanc Bridal Boutique. The show will take place on June 12 at the Fairmont Southampton, with tickets going on sale March 31st.

The Pageant is making a comeback after being on hiatus since the 1990s. Miss Bermuda winners from the past have done quite well on an international level; Gina Swainson won the Miss World Pageant in 1979 [video], Zina Minks made the top 15 in the 1980 Miss World Pageant [video], and forty years ago Margaret Hill won the Miss Photogenic award at the 1970 Miss Universe [photo] – joining the first group of black women to capture major beauty titles.

LOVE the hats, those ladies (the seniors) looked amazing! Good job contestants, it’s really nice to see young people doing something positive in the community.

  2. JT says:

no white girls trying out for miss bda…

  3. CanadianLuv says:

    http://www.missosology.info/forum/viewtopic.php?t=75465
check out what the world has to say about the Miss Bermuda contestants… they most definitely don’t measure up to the other international delegates…
    but A for effort..

    • In Response says:

@CanadianLuv Have you met the other international delegates? . . . . No? . . . . . so I guess it’s safe to say that you nor the people on those pagentry forums really know if these young ladies measure up or not. Lets leave the negativity out and support these young ladies. Well done ladies!!

      • CanadianLuv says:

        Actually I have…and they all 5’9+ , no tattoos and mostly measure a 34-24-36.
I am just educating you & passing on some info so you would know how the competition measures up. No negativity here, but if we want to win on an INTERNATIONAL stage, which is the point of this whole competition we need to know what we are competing against.
And yes serving seniors tea is cute & a nice gesture.

        • In Response says:

You and ._./ obviously have the same blinders on. If you actually looked at all the candidates closely, you would know that not all of them are 5’9″+ or measure as you say they do. I remember clearly some of the contestants in Miss Universe having tattoos and were pretty average in height without the help of their 5″ heels. So please, save it for someone who can be swayed by your ignorance aye?

          • ._./ says:

You don’t half talk some rubbish.

Whilst the shortest winner was 4’11 (with the average being 5’11) they have always had near perfect proportions.

            Even our best lacks that.

Nevertheless – I would /love/ to see proof of these tattoos you speak of – especially any dominating a contestants back (as is the case with one of ours)

        • Observer says:

The point here is to win Miss BERMUDA. Thats why this is the Miss BERMUDA pageant. i agree 100% with In Response. There is way too much negativity and not enough support. What the heck is wrong with you people? So miserable with your own lives that you have to bring someone else down to make yourself feel better. Not the way to go

          • ._./ says:

Are we so miserable in our own lives when we criticize the government?

      • ._./ says:

Stating truth does not make someone a naysayer – it just means their blinkers extend a little wider than yours.

        • LOL (original) says:

Read all the comments next time yes there are some negative and some possitive. Most notiblly Hamilton South seems to be well liked as well as Devonshire East. Personally I like Sandy’s, Devonshire East & West, Smith’s, and Hamilton South very hot ladies very hot. All of the contestants have positives those I listed just jump out at me more.

          LOL

  4. Ring Master says:

@ CanadianLuv – why didn’t you enter and show why you would light up the competition? You’re a guy right?

    • ._./ says:

I can’t imagine many guys know of Missosology.

      • In Response says:

        lol! You’ll be surprised how many ‘men’ know about Missology . . . . . .

  5. CanadianLuv says:

Actually the point of Miss Bermuda is to win Miss World!
But you wouldn’t know that since Miss Bermuda was shamed a few years ago and thus no pageant for several years.
Sadly Bermuda is known for its small minded people such as yourselves .. leave the island sometimes and experience the world its not all abt this small 21 by 21 island its about the World. And whoever wins Miss World has huge responsibilities like humanitarian efforts etc.
I would of signed up but as per my name I am Canadian .. I guess your educational system is failing u as well. & sweetheart I am very much a woman all 36- 24-36 of me. Like is said no negativity here just enlightening you as to what level the rest of the world plays on.

    • LOL (original) says:

So post a pic so I can compare as stated in the original thread I’ve been all over seen lots or are you afraid you might get a bad reaction. You might have a body but a face only a mother could love. Post the pic if you hotter than them I tell you if not I tell you anyway. Till then dammed if you do dammed if you don’t Perception is everything. Oh stop with the education pokes you never know where Bermudians were educated and seeing some Bermudians run international companies and are worth more than most Canadian families largely do to you tax situation, property values, and salaries unless your from Oxford NS where they have oil but you’d never know by seeing them. Oh just so you know I’m not hating on Canada I’m half Canadian my self even lived there for 5 years. :) just so you know.

      LOL

    • ._./ says:

Darling. As much as I love the sound of you, please don’t insult someone’s education and then say “failing u as well.”

Makes you look a bit daft, really.

    • BERMY GIRL says:

You IDIOT!!!! You sound sooooo stupid coming onto a Bermudian website, as a Canadian who doesn’t even realize that Bermuda is 21 by 2! Get your facts right before trying to say anything. Therefore without a picture posted, you can say you look AMAZING and you’re probably UGLY as SIN! For the record, this is a BERMUDIAN, and take your CANADIAN opinion to Canada! Why are you posting on this website? Is there a Miss Canada that you can disrespect? If so, enter THAT pageant, with your 5’9, 36, 24,36 frame! You WILL NOT WIN, because your attitude is U.G.L.Y!

      Later Canadian! :)
Regards….BERMUDIAN! (and extremely proud to be)

      • ._./ says:

Actually, Bermuda is 20.6 sq mi, so..

        • BERMY GIRL says:

          Anybody asks you??
Who asked you to whip out your measuring tape?

          • ._./ says:

I believe she meant to say ’21 square’, but instead wrote ’21×21′.

In any case, calling someone an idiot/telling them that they sound sooooo stupid ..and then being incorrect yourself.. it just.. I don’t even know what to say to that.

Any PROUD BERMUDIAN would know the size of their island. Any EDUCATED BERMUDIAN would know that 21 sq mi is not the same as 20×2. I don’t NEED a measuring tape to call you out on your ignorance.

Furthermore, accusing someone of having an ‘U.G.L.Y’ attitude having just mouthed off in such a fashion makes you a hypocrite in the worst way.

Go back to your hole, darling – back to your hole and stay there.

    • Intelligence says:

Question to Canadian Luv: Do you currently reside in the Island of Bermuda????

  6. CanadianLuv says:

You are all getting a little carried away. My intention was just to share & pass on info…just a messenger!
    @ LOL
I don’t need you approval darlin! I am very comfortable & confidant in my skin. Education poke was a lil uncalled for but be real most of the Jobs In Bermuda are filled by expats bec Bermudians aren’t qualified for the roles.. & most Bermudians have to leave the island to seek better post secondary options. Most of ur CEO’s etc of these large “Bermudian companies” (I put that in ‘” bec they are all registered in Bermuda due to the amazing tax laws here, but truly not Bermudian) are all educated in either the US or Canada. Oh & btw there’s lots of Oil in Alberta as well! Not to mention the Diamonds…

@ CHILD I mean BERMY GIRL
Have u heard of the internet? It’s also known as the World Wide Web.
Do you know how many provinces are in Canada? Prob not , do you even know where Canada is? ..Google! Apparently you don’t know too much abt ur island either!
& like I said don’t need ur approval. As for my interest in Bernews, I am married to a Bermudian and also like to educate myself with what’s going on in the world.
Like I said I am not trying to disrespect anyone just LETTING you know what u up against! So no need for name calling , leave that in High school .. Which based on the way u structure your sentences u still attend.

    @._./ didn’t mean to offend u ..

& that’s a wrap! Good Luck to whoever wins Miss Bermuda!

    • Nicole says:

Why are you on here if you are Canadian? Bermudians travel, we are well known for that. lets see what you REALLY look like! Another smart ass Canadian come down and say all that to a Bermudians face and see what happens. Tough talker. They are not the best Bermuda has to offer but you DO NOT need to bring that negativity here. Beauty is not just light skin, light eyes and a size 0 frame.

      • ._./ says:

Darling – in Canada, you can drive more than 25 miles in almost every direction without having to pull your car out of the ocean. Bermudian’s don’t really have a choice. We’re like a small incestual town, so OBVIOUSLY Bermudians travel.

I do love how you’ve said “come down and say all that to a Bermudians face and see what happens” to then follow with “tough talker.” It just gives me warm and fuzzies.

Pressing on – you seem to forget that, above all things, Miss World is a beauty pageant. And if it isn’t what you say it to be, then I invite you to have a look at the Miss Universe 2010 contestants:

        http://www.beautiesofcanada.com/sl5.jpg

Would it be obnoxious to throw in a little smiley here? :D

    • Intelligence says:

To the contestants, great job thus far and good luck! :-)

@ CanadianLuv: Please spell check before responding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You’re so worried about our Bermudian Ladies entering a Bermuda Pageant, that you are failing to see what’s really important at hand. Your SPELLING!!!!!!!!!!!!! (one or two mistakes, hmmmmm…..o.k. But numerous words, get real). Focus more on your academics and less hating on these ladies, because they (I’m sure) will do a wonderful job!

Matter of fact, don’t even go to the show. Please spend your time opening up a dictionary! I’m sure these contestants will do just fine without you or your minor thoughts.

P.S. If I were you (and thank GOD in his precious name that I’m not) I would not try and enlighten anyone based on the vocabulary that you are putting out! I’m sure these girls are measuring up quite well with international standards, as they can READ and SPELL (some even holding degrees)!

To you Boo Boo: SORT IT OUT & STOP HATING! It just isn’t cute! Study THAT!

  7. Nicole says:

Anyway with that said I personally know at least 10 Bermudian girls who should have entered and represented Bermuda but oh well.

  8. BERMY GIRL says:

Well how educated are you CanadianLuv? You married a Bermudian and you think so little of us. Your definition of offense must be very different to ours because belittling our country and calling us uneducated is very offensive. Look it up in a dictionary if you know how to use one Mrs. google! Talking down to us and using the very sweeping generalization that all Bermudians are small minded is also very offensive as many of us have to travel and broaden our horizons more so than a lot of Canadians might. How nice of you that you feel you have to educate us. Save your fingers the effort of typing, your services are not required but thank you anyway. Perhaps you misinterpreted the Canadian education system to think that you must exhibit the information that you have.

Thanks again Mrs. Google for all the misinformation that I’m disregarding.
And tell your husband I’m sorry that he got stuck with you. :( (womp Womp)

    Yours truly
    BERMY…CHILD ahahahahah!
