Yearwoods Win Medals at Championships
16-year-old Ashley and 19-year-old Nicole Yearwood were members of a contingent of forty-six Baylor Swim Club athletes competed in the 2011 Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships held at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, TN.
Nicole won the Gold Medal in the Girls 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:15.16, the pair won the Bronze Medal in the Senior Girls 400 Yard Freestyle Relay, with Nicole swimming the third leg and Ashley swimming the last leg the Baylor team finished third with a time of 3:33.49.
This was the most athletes that the Baylor Swim Club has had compete at the Southeastern Swimming Short Course Championships in it’s history.
Baylor finished 7th overall in the combined team scores. In order to compete in the meet the athletes had to achieve qualifying time standards.
Over 1000 athletes from the states of Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida competed in the championship affair.
Nicole finished the Senior Girls 200 Freestyle in 25th clocking a time of 1:57.38, while Ashley finished 33rd clocking 1:58.97 which a New AAA Time Standard Achievement. Nicole then finished 36th in the Senior Girls 100 Yard Breaststroke were she produced a time of 1:11.51.
During the Senior Girls 100 Yard Backstroke Nicole finished 32nd clocking a time of 1:02.05, while in the Senior Girls 50 Yard Freestyle Ashley finished 19th with a time of 25.00, while Nicole clocked a time of 25.74 to finish 48th.
Taking part in the Senior Girls 200 Yard IM Ashley finished 58th with a time of 2:19.25, while Nicole finished 17th in the Senior Girls 500 Yard Freestyle clocking a time of 5:15.16.
Swimming with Kimberlee John-Williams, Savannah Napier and Hannah Peiffer, Ashley finished the Senior Girls 400 Yard Medley Relay in 8th place with a time of 3:59.18. Ashley finished 27th in the Senior Girls 200 Yard Backstroke which was a New AA Time Standard Achievement with a time of 2:14.23, while Nicole finished 32nd clocking 2:15.20.
During the Senior Girls 100 Yard Freestyle, Nicole with a time of 55.37 finished 44th, while Ashley finished 59th with a time of 56.93 and in the Senior Girls 100 Yard Butterfly Ashley finished in a time of 1:00.23 that saw her finish 29th and record another New AAA Time Standard Achievement.
