Looking Back: Easter Weekend In Photos
The holiday weekend witnessed a return to traditional Bermuda Easter form: kite flying, fishcakes, chocolate eggs and church services dominated the three-day break rather than the tragedy which marked the same holiday in 2010.
The Bermuda Police Service had promised a heavy presence over the weekend, and could be seen out in high numbers day and night over the past three days. The weekend wasn’t free of all negative happenings – with an attempted robbery of a tourist and a car smashing into a wall – however a good time was had the majority of locals on the island.
The marquee kite of Good Friday was a massive homemade Bermuda-style kite, which attracted plenty of attention at the annual Gilbert Lamb Family Fun Day at St. David’s County Cricket Club.
Ernest McCallan said it was a 21-foot kite which was made with 16-foot lengths of 2×4, a 5-foot extended piece for the header and covered with plastic. [view videos here]

Little ones were very enthused taking part in the Easter Egg hunt, some grabbing more then they could handle:
The Bermuda-style celebrations weren’t restricted to the island, with transplanted ”Onions” carrying on local traditions. Bermudians at St. John’s University in New York City came together to partake in festivities such as playing marbles, flying kites, playing football, eating hot cross buns, cod fish cakes and more over the Easter weekend.
Bermuda wasn’t the only place with large traditional kites flying, as 21-year-old colleges student Michiko Campbell built, and flew, two 6-foot kites [one pictured below] at his Miami University.
