Video: Bees Make Home A Hive Of Activity
A swarm of bees turned a Paget home into an unusually hively place last week.
James Doughty said he was sitting in his living room on Thursday afternoon and noticed a few bees had come down the fireplace. He looked outside and noticed that there was a small swarm above the chimney.
Mr. Doughty was running late for an appointment in town so he dashed out, and by time he returned home that afternoon he said bees appeared to be swarming his house. He called beekeeper Quincy Burgess, who came quickly to sort out the situation.
Mr Doughty said, “He discovered that the queen had gotten into the living room and the rest of the hive had followed.
“He moved the queen to a bee box outside the house and began to sweep the bees out the windows so they would follow the queen. After about 45 minutes most of the bees had left the house and were in the box. The bees were not aggressive, and no one was stung.”
Mr. Doughty concluded: “The funniest part of the situation was when the beekeeper placed the box with thousands of bees between his legs and rode off down the road on his bike. Only in Bermy!”
