Videos: 2011 Designers Behind The Fashions
Last night [June 3], the creative workmanship of local designers was showcased at the BSoA Bermuda Fashion Collective Show at City Hall. You can view a photo gallery of the fashion show here, and watch six of the designers explain a bit more about themselves, and what inspired their designs below.
Dana Cooper said her collection is inspired by Bermuda, and islands around the world. Ms Cooper’s beachwear collection has attracted international attention, and has sold at establishments including Calypso, Saks Fifth Avenue, Ritz Carlton, and Four Seasons.
Edith Rookes said she loves fashion, couture and sharing her skills – she teaches beginners sewing at the Warwick Community School.
Ashley Aitken has been designing for three years, and is the mastermind behind the ElleTee Fashion line. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science Degree, completed a Fashion Design Certificate course at the Instituto Di Moda Burgo in Italy, and studied Fashion Design in New York.
Nicole Iris, a popular local designer, said as a child she always had hand me downs, and desired wanted new clothes, which started her on a path to fashion design.
Rene Hill Originals features a line of intricately woven and expertly handcrafted crocheted scarves for men and women. The line is produced in Peru and the Philippines.
Italian born Consuelo Verde worked in the fashion industry for 20 years prior to coming to Bermuda.
