Ming, Binns: Sargasso Sea London Meeting

This coming weekend [July 9/10] the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure Strategy Dr. Derrick Binns and the Director of the Department of Environmental Protection Dr. Frederick Ming will travel to London to participate in an International Maritime Organization [IMO] event, to further advance the causes of the Sargasso Sea Alliance.

Dr. Ming will be a guest speaker at the meeting and the topic of Dr. Ming’s speech is: “The Wonders of the Sargasso Sea Ecology and Biology”.

The meeting will take place at IMO Headquarters and welcoming remarks will be delivered by the Executive Director of the Sargasso Sea Alliance Professor David Freestone.

In addition, while in London, Dr. Ming and Dr. Binns will also meet with a number of Foreign and Commonwealth Office Officials to discuss how to best work together to put the case for the protection of the Sargasso Sea to a number of intergovernmental agencies.

Minister of Environment, Planning and Infrastructure Strategy Walter Roban said, “I am very pleased to see yet another step being taken by my dedicated team at the Ministry which further demonstrates our commitment to the protection of the Sargasso Sea. This meeting offers us a very exciting opportunity to both identify opportunities for collaboration and to learn more about this unique area.”

The Minister added, “The valuable financial support from the Sargasso Sea Alliance has made our presence at this meeting possible”.
