Burgess Places 3rd At Penn Bay Regatta

September 12, 2011

This past weekend 17-year-old Bermuda sailor Blake Burgess placed third in his division at the Penn Bay Regatta.

As a freshman, this is a notable achievement for him and his school – Maine Maritime Academy. Burgess started off his first regatta right with a first place and followed it with two top five finishes, another 1st, and two 6th places to finish up the day in second place! On Sunday the sailors headed out again to compete. Burgess and crew Nicholas Cabral [sophomore] kept up the pace with two 4th places, a 12th and 13th, and to finish off the regatta they scored a 5th and 6th in 20 knots of wind.

This coming weekend, Burgess will be flying down to Annapolis, Maryland with seven other teammates to compete in the Shields regatta where he will be skippering a NAVY 44 ft. vessel against the other service academies within the United States.
