Roy-Allan Burch Preps For Pan Ams

October 4, 2011

roy allan burchApproximately two months ago at the World Championships in Shanghai, China, Roy-Allan Burch had the swim of his life which earned him a spot to compete at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.

After breaking the National record and being the first Bermudian to break twenty-three seconds, Mr Burch said he was elated. He describes that despite the feeling of being happy and making breakthroughs in his swimming, there was still much work to be done.

Mr Burch says the next step is to take the new techniques he has learned from his training and begin reapplying them. Burch said, “Getting my legs stronger along with a stronger core will be the key to my success next summer. Closing the gap between me and the number one contender will take a great amount of focus.” The plan moving forward will be gaining strength and power while applying excellent meticulous technique.

With Pan Ams approaching quickly Mr Burch looks to set a good mark. This meet falls at a difficult time for swimmers. The training is in its conditioning phase.

Hsaid, “Setting a personal best is not out of the question. I will have to be able to swim outside myself if I want to reach my goal of getting a medal. Competitions at this time of the year are usually slower than those during the summer. With a personal best I can compete for a medal or a top spot in the final.”

Mr Burch closed by saying, “I would like to thank those who have shown support while I work towards the Olympics. Your support has been greatly valued and I hope that I have shown that I am a worthy investment. With your continued support and new support I will be able to maximize my training and reach a new level of swimming for Bermuda.”

“The journey to the Olympics doesn’t begin the day you step on the flight. The journey has already begun. Help me continue to improve my training and I will work my hardest to put Bermuda into a top spot at the Olympic Games. I would personally like to thank my Family, Sharks Swim Club, Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association, Bermuda Olympic Association and The Olympic Club”.
