East End Is Celebrating The Arts Tonight

November 12, 2011

It could be described as a case of not just one but two from the art in St. George’s tonight [Nov. 12].

Not only does Bermuda’s latest gallery open but the St. George’s Artists Alliance has organised its first ever Art Walk In The East to spotlight on the Old Town’s increasingly diverse arts scene.

Then official opening reception at the Chris Dawson Fine Art Studio runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. as does the arts walkabout.

The new gallery has original oil paintings on display and for sale ranging from landscapes, seascapes to portraits — with subjects ranging from people to pets.

“I also do commission work if you are interested in having a portrait or pet portrait painted, or perhaps a painting of your home or favorite landscape,” said Bermudian Mr. Dawson.

Born in Bermuda in 1979, Mr. Dawson attended the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.

Throughout his college years, he experimented with many mediums and various interests such as illustration, graphic design, photography, airbrushing, and silk screen printing.

It wasn’t until his last year at college that he decided to take an oil painting class which became his preferred medium and in which he mainly works today.

Mr. Dawson is inspired by many amazing artists such as Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Velasquez, Vermeer, and Delacroix to name a few.

The studio is located next to Dowling’s Gas Station on the waterside, in the blue two storey Hunters Building on the bottom left porch.
