Videos: High Winds Will Continue Lashing Island
[Updated with videos] Bermudians won’t get any relief from powerful winds hammering now the island until at least Tuesday, the Bermuda Weather Service reported this afternoon.
Gale-force gusts — which forced the postponement of today’s scheduled start of the Bermuda World Rugby Classic and led to the cancellation of many community events including the St. George’s Olde Town Market — will continue tomorrow the BWS said in its 4.30 pm update.
Gale warnings and small-craft warnings are currently in effect.
“A nearly stationary surface low to our southwest will continue to interact with a strong high to the north, with strong to possible gale force winds,” said the forecasters.
“Showers will increase tonight, with rain or showers and a risk of thunder through Tuesday. The low will move slightly further west Wednesday, allowing for some easing of conditions.
Tonight will be cloudy with occasional showers and a chance of thunderstorms late in the evening. Winds will be east-northeasterly, ranging from strong to gale force.
Tomorrow [Nov.7] is expected to be cloudy with occasional rain or showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Winds will be easterly, with strong gusts ranging to gale force.
Belco has been contending with sporadic black-outs throughout the island all weekend as a result of the high winds.
