BMDS To Hold Student Audition Workshop

December 13, 2011

The Bermuda Musical & Dramatic Society [BMDS] is holding an Audition Intensive run by Bermudian theatre students Paige Thompson and Sophie Faulkenberry for young people interested in pursuing performing arts at the university leve.

The two-day workshop — being held on December 19 and 20 — will give students an idea of the type of process they have to go through in order to get into a theatre school.

“The workshop will focus mainly on helping prepare students for college theatre auditions; however, the tools taken from the workshop will prepare students for all manners of meetings in the industry,” said a BMDS spokesman.

Students should prepare two 16-32 bar cuts of songs from musical theatre repertoire and bring the sheet music for their songs with them to the workshop. Students should also prepare two monologues, one to two minutes in length.

“The first day of the intensive will focus on work-shopping the songs and monologues and doing exercises to prepare students for auditioning,” said the spokesman. “The second day of the audition will be focused on putting these new skills into practice as the students perform mock auditions in front of a panel of experienced members of the industry.

“Due to the intensive nature of the workshop, we can only accept 24 students aged 16-19 into this workshop.”

If you are interested in participating in the intensive, please e-mail sfaulkenberry@rcs.ac.uk with your name, age, school and a short paragraph about yourself and why you want to participate in the workshop.

The workshop will be held at BMDS’ Daylesford Theatre on Washington Street.
