Students Complete Life Skills Program
On Monday December 5th, HSBC and Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School [BBFS] attended the Dellwood Middle School Assembly, to highlight the success of the HSBC – BBFS Life Skills Program.
HSBC represented by Mr. Khari Sharieff, congratulated the students on having completed the programme and in particular, the life skills components.
Dellwood Principal Mrs. Lisa Marshall, highlighted the programme and the importance sports plays in the development of youth in Bermuda. Marshall also expressed her appreciation to HSBC and BBFS for having delivered the programme, during the past 7 weeks.
Cal Blankendal, CEO of BBFS and Jermaine Smith [Assistant Coach] reflected on the 7 week football and life-skills sessions at Dellwood.
Mr Blankendal addressed the student body encouraging them to continue to make positive decisions and not be influenced by negative peer pressure. He also expressed the appreciation to HSBC for their financial contribution which aided in the programme, being delivered at no cost to the school or student body.
Sports photographer Ras Mykkal was the invited speaker on behalf of BBFS and gave insight into his personal journey of following his dreams. He stressed that each student should follow their own path and not conforms to what others wanted then to become.
Mr. Mykkal’s parting words were, “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.” “Your job will be your passion and you will put all of your heart and energy into it.”
HSBC and BBFS awarded four students a copy of Ras Mykkal’s “Click! I Got Yah – Volume 1.” for their outstanding articles on Clyde Best which was part of their final life-skills project.
The four essays winners were; Reece Jones Jr, K,Zhai Bailey, Alanna Dayv and Gershonae Tait. Reece Jones. Jr received a special mention for having submitted an outstanding essay.
Mr. Yonz Sutton was awarded a BBFS training jacket for being the most committed student in the programme. Each student was awarded a HSBC – BBFS – Life Skills graduation certificate for their excellent commitment to the programme.
HSBC and BBFS will continue with the Life-Skills programme at the Whitney Institute Middle School in February 2012.
