Results: Doig Wins National Par 3 Championship

March 26, 2012

The Bermuda Bacardi Par 3 National Championships was decided by a sudden-death play-off in both the Ladies Division and the Professional Division yesterday [Mar.25] at the Fairmont Southampton Golf Course.

Ian Doig and the 2011 Par 3 National Championship Champion Nick Taylor both finished at +1 for the tournament. The players headed back to the eighteenth and with the crowd building Doig tee’d off. His shot landed some 15 feet from the hole while Taylor’s Tee Shot was some 20 feet away. Taylor’s Birdie putt went just wide and then Doig sunk his putt from a distance to take the National Par 3 Title.

Katyna Rabain and Katrin Burnie both finished at +15 and they had to go back to the eighteenth hole to begin their Play-Off. Rabain held her nerve to shoot par, having a Birdie attempt from some 25 feet away while Burnie had a shot out of the bunker land some 15 feet from the cup. Rabain’s putt came within a foot of the hole for her to tap in and take the title.

Nick Mansell shot +3 for the tournament to won the Men’s Gross Title. Hav Trott became the first recipient of the Lionel Pengelly Senior’s Trophy after he shot a two day total of 14-over par.
