Bermuda Win Three Carifta Swimming Medals

[Updated with video] The first day of the 2012 Carifta Swimming Championships being held in the Bahamas went extremely well, with Bermuda picking up three medals — including a gold — courtesy of top class performances by Jesse Washington and Shannon Hassell.

Shannon, Jesse and swim coach Ben Smith:

Shannon Hassell won the first medal for Bermuda when she captured a Bronze Medal in the 11-12 Girls 50 Long Course Meter Backstroke when she finished third with a time of 34.08.

12-year-old swimmer Jesse Washington won a Gold Medal during the 11-12 Boys 100 Long Course Meter Butterfly Final when he finished first with a time of 1:06.32.

He then went on to win a Silver Medal with a second place finish in the 11-12 Boys 50 Long Course Meter Backstroke Final.

The competition continues today, with Jesse Washington, Nic Patterson, Katrina Beveridge, Benedict Parfict, Philip Hagen, Shannon Hassell, Aaron Rego, Madelyn Moore and Ashley Yearwood all set to continue competing.

    Well done Athletes!!!
    Maybe our National Sports Centre should have listened to what is needed to hold Carifta here in Bermuda?? What is being built at the Aquatics Centre would be like building a 4 lane running track. Lets ask what this pool costs and I bet the other proposal will be cheaper – bet we never find out the true cost!!

    Sports Tourism is what is needed and the community demands to bring $$$$$ into the Island.
