April 12, 2012

After a bail hearing that lasted from its planned start of 11:00am until 12:30pm today [Apr.12], the four men and one woman charged in the April 2nd home invasion were all remanded into custody.

The five charged are: Jasmin Samantha Smith (19); Shayne Angelo James (18); Terence Winston Christopher (21); Dwayne Curtis Brangman (19); and Tyrone Pedro (21).

The group was alleged to have used a machete and imitation firearm to commit the offence, and to have stolen a number of items valued at over $3,000.

All five appeared before Magistrate Juan Wolffe who listened to bail submissions made by defence lawyers Leopold Mills for Brangman; Elizabeth Christopher for Smith; and Charles Richardson for Christopher. Lawyer Kamal Williams acting for lawyer Larry Mussenden made no application for his client Tyrone Pedro.

The Magistrate remanded them all into custody until their next appearance at 9:30am on Thursday 26th April 2012.

Hahah, they lawyers should be ashamed arguing for bail.

    • Not Again! says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who is sick and tired of hearing how wonderful these people are……and how thier boy is a law abiding, God fearing citizen….

  3. Bermyman says:

If convicted chop off their hands and let them go. They won’t steal and neither will their mates when they see the state of them!

Prison will do nothing for these people accept make them worse when they get out in 10-15 years time.

Then they will be free to do it all over again!

    • andre says:

And your going to subsidise them since they can no longer work right? Shaking my head!

      • lady says:

are they working right now? they are usless to the community now by choice not because life is too hard. Make them think again before they try and do something so stupid and reckless. I say OFF with their HANDS! wahahaaa

      • Bermyman says:

I am going to subsidize them if they go to jail! Actually lets just leave it at one hand then they can still work.

      • White Christ says:

Yeah cause they’re doing soooooo much work sitting in jail right?
Actually removing the offending limb will prevent so many cell squatters and save us loads of money. If you can’t work with one hand, tough!

  4. Just One says:

I’m still amazed at how quickly the police found these suspects. I’m very interested in hearing the evidence that led them to be arrested and charged so quickly.

I really hope they got the right bunch and that they are fully convicted, because this home invasion madness needs to stop, random or not.

  5. Come correct says:

Any bets Terrence Christopher gets off? Richardson is a beast lol he could get someone holding a bloody knife off of murder.

    • amen says:

Maybe, maybe not since it’s five of them he will probably won’t get off too easy. It takes a criminal to know a criminal though. He has a criminal mind so he comes up with crazy defense theories.

      • tricks are for kids says:

@ Amen…”It takes a criminal to know a criminal though. He has a criminal mind so he comes up with crazy defense theories”. – Totally uncalled for..but I guess since you are sin free and without flaws and have never gone astray in your life I guess it’s okay for you to cast judgement? Although the last time I checked that was God’s job…….

        • terry says:

I had to read that twicw,…
I thought you wrote Gov’s job.

        • amen says:

How is it uncalled for when it’s relevant to that person’s comment? I’ve never shot up clubs full of people, so if that’s “astray” then no I haven’t. It’s the truth is it not? It’s a judgment, an opinion I’m rightfully entitled to based on factual evidence. A jury’s job, a prosecutors job, a judge’s job and anyone else who feels like it. Like he doesn’t judge people himself.

          • tricks are for kids says:

You are entitled to your opinion, yes…just as I am entitled to mine…to bring up a man’s past is very “small minded” and if you look up the word ‘astray’ in the dictionary no it doesn’t mean that you have shot up a club full of people (again bringing up a man’s past). There’s a thin line between judgement and opinion and your opinion/perception veers more closely to being judgemental, almost personal I might add….At any rate this article is not about Mr. Richardsons’ past….If he has been hired by Mr. Christophers family it is his job to defend his client to the best of his ability..

            Have a Great day……..

            • amen says:

You clearly didn’t get what I meant with the “astray” comment, which you yourself used in regards to defending his deplorable actions. It’s not “small minded” when it’s relevant to someone else’s comment. What is your problem? I know he comments on here. That you CR? I don’t think it’s personal. How so? I’ll ask again. Is it not the truth? Hasn’t he been in the news for breaking the law again since? Yes and yes.

I can say people make mistakes and should be forgiven for a example, a man stealing to feed himself because he can’t afford it but shooting up clubs knowingly trying to hurt/murder someone is not forgivable to me. Maybe it is to you but if a bullet had hit and killed one of your loved ones I doubt your opinion would be the same. Anyone capable of doing that is a terrible, misguided and plain out evil.

  6. Black says:

I say lock them up these children need to be taught a lesson. Everytime somthing happens they get Leniency. If they see that other people do harsh time they would think twice about it …i’m sure they would think twice because they know that BDA’s system is jacked up they are goin to do it because they know they are goin to do little bit of time for the crime or get off the case completey. lock them up and throw away the key… plain and simple

  7. Mountbatten says:

Why did you fools do away with the Junior Training School , Paget Island and the cold castle ‘ Casemates ‘ ?

  8. CCJKMOT says:

What if these children come from a loving family, and just happened to lose their way. I don’t think that jail helps in this situation, because, as it’s been previously stated and restated, that only makes criminals worse.
These babies need love. And when that fails, we ALL need to show them more love then they can stand. That’s the major difference that I see in the Bermuda that I knew as a child and today. Never have I seen a society more quick to judge and dismiss their own future than today’s Bermuda.
