Coalition Summer Camp Sponsorship Appeal

June 14, 2012

The Coalition for the Protection of Children are launching a summer camp matching program where individuals, families or companies can sponsor a student’s summer camp fees. Requests coming in to the charity for summer camp funding assistance have started coming in earlier and have increased.

A coalition spokesperson said, “So far this month, the Coalition for the Protection of Children have had more early requests for summer camp funding than in previous years and have begun a waitlist for families needing assistance.

“The price of summer camp is unaffordable for many parents who are already struggling to cover basic costs, yet the need for children to be productively engaged over the summer months is vital, especially given the increase in anti-social behavior dominating segments of the community in recent times.

“We would like to ensure all young people are enrolled in camps for the entirety of their summer, both to allow the students have a fun break from their regular school schedule and also to ensure they do not become caught up in less productive pastimes.

“As a result, we are once again launching a summer camp matching program where individuals, families or companies can sponsor a student’s summer camp fees. Fees range from a minimum of $60 per week for government-operated camps up to $200 per week for private camps such as art or sailing programs.

“We are looking for a minimum of 1 week to a maximum of 8 weeks of camp sponsorship per child. As it is a matching program, payment can be made directly to particular camp programs or can be sent to the Coalition. Anyone interested in sponsoring the initiative can call call 295 1150 or email Nicola.cpc@logic.bm”
