Friends and family gathered Tuesday [June 5] to celebrate the presentation of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medals to many of the Regiment’s service personnel. Governor Mr George Fergusson was in attendance and presented each medal after his opening remarks.
Regiment Adjutant, Captain Beasley welcomed the guests which included Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief. Captain Beasley said, “This parade is part of the Celebrations of Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee – celebrating her 60 years as our reigning monarch and head of state.
“The Commemorative medal is designed and styled “The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal”, is circular in form, made of nickel-silver. It bears on the obverse the Crown Effigy of Her Majesty and on the reverse a heavily faceted diamond shape with, at its centre, a relief rendering of the crowned Royal Cipher.
“The dates 1952 and 2012 are arranged below the central design. The medal is suspended from a ribbon, one and a quarter inches in width, consisting of a red ribbon having borders of blue and a central white stripe upon which is a central thin red stripe.
“The criteria to qualify for the medal in Bermuda are congruent with that in the UK. In regards to service time, members of the Bermuda Regiment must have completed a minimum of five years active service either in part time or as full time staff.
“The recipients are from a cross section of the Regiment and include members of the band, boat troop, medics, drivers, signallers, riflemen, logisticians, administrators, mechanics, clerks, and other areas of specialty.”
