Upcoming: Bascome/Lowe Football Classic
The Men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity incorporated and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity incorporated are hosting the second Annual Bascome/Lowe Charity Football Classic.
The aim of the tournament is to bring these two organizations that are committed to the development of the youth — especially young males — together for a friendly football match that will ultimately raise money for charity.
A spokesperson said, “The football game will take place this Friday June 22nd at 6pm at Bernard’s Park. All charities can win up $1000. Simply bring 10 or more of your members and wear the color of the fraternity you support (red for Kappas and Gold or yellow for the Alphas) and enter the name of your organization into the draw.”
Current President of Kappa Alpha Psi Dexter Johnston, states, “In these very trying financial times it is important that we create opportunities that allow our charities to find alternative ways of financial support as well as create positive recreational opportunities for the whole community.”
The Classic is named in honor of the late Minister Nelson Bascome (Kappa) and Rev. Doctor Wilbur Lowe (Alpha). Last year’s recipient was Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Bermuda and the Winner of last year’s match was the Men of Kappa Alpha Psi who walked away with the Trophy after a 1-0 victory over the Alphas.
Current President of the Alpha Phi Alpha Dr. Bert McPhee states: “This is an awesome way to celebrate two Bermudian men who represented Service, and the Spirit of our community. Both of these men were avid sportsman, so honoring them in this way goes a long way to say thank-you and to continue their legacy.”
my money is on the Alphas. All the best, I went last year it was fun, and competitive.
I am proud of the men of these two organizations. My son takes part in the Kappa Classic, and it has revolutionized local youth football, and the Alphas are very progressive and active.
All the best!
Positive community event but revolutionizing youth football is getting caught up in the moment..
this event brings together two of the most progressive male organizations on the island. Servicing thousands of young boys in Bermuda yearly.
Many are just now becoming aware of the community service this being done by these two groups and I am proud that you are creating opportunities for the community
finally the stereotypical image of fraternites are changing, it is good to see thise groups meeting the needs of the community. Many in the past had negative things to say about the greek letter organizations it is nice to see the positive that his happening the that community benifits from.
go Kappas
this was a very entertaining event last year good to see it back
I’m looking forward to seeing this!
Maybe this can turn into a big thing with ALL Fraternities on island by including the Ques, Sigmas?Iotas? (Not sure if they are here)
Good Luck Gentlemen!
I am looking forward to see Dwayne Canes of the Alphas play. I hav followed his career and he should have long made Bermuda’s national team. Go yellow.
