City Fashion Festival Kicks Off Today
The City Fashion Festival kicks off this week with Mannequin Monday. Taking place between 11:00am and 2:00pm, participating retailers and salons in Hamilton will have live models in their windows as mannequins.
City of Hamilton Events Project Manager, Danilee Trott stated, “Our week of fashion began on Sunday morning with a special Masterclass for models. The segments included; our international guest from Wilhelmina Models, Mr. Paul Nelson, who talked about what is required to be a model in today’s professional fashion industry and he provided coaching on runway walking; Bermudian international model, Mr. Darius Dio, talked about the industry from a model’s perspective.
“We also invited world renowned make-up artist, Mr. Christopher Vee of CV Make Up to give tips for day to night make-up application. Mr. Lamont Robinson of JaKoMa discussed how to enter and grow in the local modeling scene. The workshop concluded with the team fielding questions from the models.”
Ms. Trott added, “Tomorrow (Monday) will highlight the retailers and salons who are participating in the fashion festival. Mannequin Monday gives them an opportunity to showcase, on live models, some of the fashions that won’t be on the runway this coming weekend. I encourage everyone to walk around Hamilton at lunchtime and to view the clothes and talented models on display.
“Wednesday evening we will highlight hair and makeup at Harbour Nights. Some of Bermuda’s talented hair and makeup artists will have their works of art on display starting at 7:30pm. This will be another opportunity to see what is available in Bermuda as we focus specifically on this art form. This Wednesday is the US Independence Day, the audience will see some exciting styles with an American theme. Completing the show will be a body art competition, featuring four talented body art companies with the most detailed work ever seen.”
Ms. Trott added, “Of course, Saturday July 7, starting at 7:30pm will be the Evolution Fashion Show, our grand finale in front of City Hall. I encourage people to attend this amazing evening of fashion. Our models have been hard at work for the last three months, practicing and practicing some more.
“If you think back to the thousands of people who attended last year’s event, we are expecting equal or greater numbers. This year’s show will be more exciting with lots of surprises. There will be some 150 models strutting up and down the 80 foot runway featuring clothes from 23 retailers and hair by four salons. Attendees can expect a variety that will feature something for everyone.”
“The audience should bring folding chairs and plan to arrive early in order to stake out their special space on City Hall grounds and on Church Street. There will be vendors selling clothing, food and drinks on Dismont Drive. We are looking forward to this fun, free, family focused evening. For those who would like reserved seating and want to participate in a reception, there are VIP tickets on sale at City Hall,” Ms. Trott concluded.
